Speaking of Hershey, AHL doesn't drop the puck for game 1 until tomorrow night, they haven't played in 12 days. And Texas since last Tuesday.

With the Flyers winning game 3 this thread will begin to be tolerable again

Its nice having the Hawks fans back on solid ground. They've been up in the clouds for days now.
Forgot to mention last night, did anyone see the Maclean - Bettman interview on HNIC last night? Wow is all I can say. Can't get Youtube at work so I can't link but its worth a watch if you have 8 minutes.

I can speak from experience on this....directing and redirecting rebounds is a difficult science. It takes a lot of practice! Much of this is based on the goaltenders position relative to the puck and how the shot comes to you/hits you. Our goal, as a goaltender is to either smother the puck/no rebound or to direct the shot towards the side of the rink. But common practice and well known knowledge is that the goaltender is responsible for the first shot on goal. Anything else is up to the defensemen-no matter where the puck is. So my responsibility, as a goaltender, is for that first shot. That's why you'll see your team "collapse" towards your goaltender-during a shot....so they can "pick up the trash". So rebounds (2nd and 3rd shots) are always more difficult. If you are on your butt, rebound shots will most likely go into the net. If you're upright (butterfly position), you have a better chance of stopping the rebound shots. Niemi goes down on his butt too much-that needs to be corrected.

Philadelphia had "more in the tank" than the Blackhawks did in the 3rd period and overtime period. The announcers said they didn't expect the game to go too far into the overtime period-and they were right!
Three Wheelin'
Way to go, Giroux!! Hopefully we can win again Friday night and even things up. Flyers seem to show much more determination when their backs are against the wall.

Per dom's post...I have no idea what went up Bettman's @$$. What a prick. I thought his behavior in the interview was atrocious...he's supposed to be a commissioner!

I expect the Hawks to take less stupid penalties come Game 3. Toews already has called out the squad on that in his post-game chat...I also think if Ladd can dress, it will help.
Burish maybe will sit...?

But, just to make sure none of these nimrods think I've lost an edge:
DID ANYONE SEE THE SICK PASS FROM CAPTAIN SERIOUS TO KANE ON THAT BREAKAWAY...?!?
DID ANYONE SEE NIEMI'S (NO-NAME) SAVES IN THE 3RD PERIOD...?!?

Sick pass, he pushed the puck up the ice to him... It's about time those two finally did something.

Yea, but did you also see Hartnell's "on his knee's" pass across the goal crease for the winning goal? I have to hand it to the Flyers on that one. But.......the Blackhawks still need to will the Stanley Cup!

^ Terrible line-change on the Hawks part on the GWG by Giroux. Not the kind of mistake you want to give a desperate team...
And anytime the refs want to flag Pronger for all of his dirty play, fine by me.

But, enough about that...anyone notice how every "top line" that has faced The Rat et al has been minus players and held more or less pointless...?
@ Bolland...

Doughty FTW!
...and GM Deano is already saying NOPE to Hossa style Cap Hell contracts...so the Kings will be fine.
I don't see Kovi or Marleau coming to L.A.

Toews = Top Forward in the Olympics tourney...scored the crucial first goal in the gold-medal match. Lead everyone in +/- while tasked with checking the oppositions' top lines. Also, he had quite a few points overall.
Yep, Toews >>>> Doughty. And oh, Toews is playing in the Cup Finals. Doughty. Not. Toews is Captain of Original 6 team, Doughty...not. Toews is leading candidate for Conn Smythe. Doughty...not. I'd keep going...but, it's pointless.
I'll stop before dom and 97Acklacka blow up.

True, it is pointless to talk about Toes. I agree.
Toes did not delivery a gold to each person in the Candia.....Doughty did...just ask dom.
Doughty for Norris too
at the original six team nonsense.

It's okay to hate. Toews is only the youngest Captain in the league...only.
I haven't even started about the Keith > Doughty bit.

Anyhow, slapsticking aside...I expect the Kings to put up a good fight next season for Western Conference supremacy.
The Chicken Wings time is over. Sharks...yeah, they can go , too.

^^ I give the Kings 2 more years before they fight for the top spot in the west.
They still are extremely young......and I expect a few more incredible younglings to crack the line-up this fall.
...the Bernier and Quick tandem will be fun to watch....that is if Quick is not traded.

The bs is getting thick in here, time to put on some waders
Glad to see one of my hated teams win a game and make it a series against another hated team. Game 3 was what I hoped for, another thrilling game as a cup final game should be. Definitely want to see this one go to winner take all game 7.

Both great players that should be playing in the center of the hockey universe where people actually give a damn about hockey, so screw you both.
How's that for not taking sides.

They should be ready after their cup of coffee in this year's playoffs. I would not be surprised to see Lombardi add a scorer in Kovalchuk/Marleau with the cap space available.

Or is it because they are really dirty (like the Canucks and Flyers)...?
Or is it because of Hossa...?
And...honestly...what BS...? You have some slapstick moments...but, most of the comments are valid...
I mean, it makes sense for you to dislike the Flyers because they are your equivalent of the Chicken Wings for me. But, the Hawks...? I don't get it.
I mean, if it's me...fine. But, that's awfully strong to hate a team because of someone on the internet.

Maybe. I'm sure Edmonton or Boston will be lining up to give up Hall/Seguin for Kaberle.
The sizzle in the Steak
Kovie and Marleau are NOT coming to L.A. That's not Deano's style....and he's been saying it interview after interview.
....and anyone want Froloaf, Kings are not going to resign him......ring ring.....KHL calling Mr. Froloaf.

We'll see...I think one of the top UFA's will land in LA. Maybe it's not Kovalchuk and Marleau. But, with the $$$ available, I see them signing someone...

Anyone having to live through a "1st line" of Bell, Arnason, and Calder has the right to be extra hyped about the stars on Chicago's team.

Maloney Named GM of the Year...
Good choice.
Don Maloney is being rewarded for what he called a "nightmare" -- guiding the ownerless Phoenix Coyotes to the most successful regular season in franchise history.
He was named the winner of the NHL general manager of the year award Wednesday.
Maloney's biggest move was hiring head coach Dave Tippett, who guided the Coyotes to the playoffs for the first time since 2002. Phoenix posted a 50-27-5 record for 107 points and set franchise records for wins and points in a season.
"It's certainly humbling," Maloney said after a day-long GMs meeting at a down town hotel. "It was more a reflection of the organization's success, starting with a great job of coaching.
"And the players were able to rally against a tough situation internally."
Maloney helped steer the Coyotes through an uncertain and turbulent off-season in which the NHL ended up financing the club. A seemingly endless process of finding an owner still shows no sign of a resolution.
"The nightmare continues," he said with a laugh. "I spent a lot of time with (NHL deputy commissioner) Bill Daly working out how we're going to operate in this period.
"It's agreeing to a player budget and then we have a lot of free agents, so we'll talk to him and see who we can sign and where we'll have to look. It's really no different than the other 29 teams."
This season, he also added several players to the team's roster, including Radim Vrbata, Jim Vandermeer, Adrian Aucoin, Taylor Pyatt and Robert Lang.
At the trade deadline, Maloney acquired Lee Stempniak, Wojtek Wolski, Petteri Nokelainen, Derek Morris and Mathieu Schneider. The Coyotes went on to finish fourth in the Western Conference before losing to Detroit in the first round of the post-season.
Now the challenge will be to repeat this season's success or even go farther. The Coyotes were knocked out in the second round after a tight series with the veteran Detroit Red Wings.
"We certainly want to build on last year," he said. "We still need to win. We got to the playoffs, which was our goal, but next year it's winning that counts."
Maloney accepted the award at the annual GMs meeting at the Stanley Cup final. George McPhee of the Washington Capitals and David Poile of the Nashville Predators were also considered for the honour.
Maloney, 51, joined the Coyotes in May 2007 following 10 years in the front office of the New York Rangers.
Voting for the new award was conducted among the 30 club general managers and a panel of NHL executives, print and broadcast media at the end of the regular season.
