Can someone explain what changed in the last 4 years? Are the Canuckian stars really over the hill, or have the Europeans really matured into better players?
I am still in shock how bad Canada looked the last 3 losses.

The canadians just lost the leadership of mario and steve. The young guys didnt really look like they were playing very well...Rick Nash... Its really too bad, payroll over 100 million but can't put it together.

Everything was wrong with this team, starting with the player selection. They went with these old guys who are having terrible seasons. St louis, Nash, Bertuzzi, Mccabe should have been off the team. Put in crosby, spezza, staal, and phaneuff.

Shanahan has more goals 20 to 11, not to mention the leadership and experience that Shanahan brings in what I think is too young a team.

Sakic I thought, correct me if I'm wrong isn't a vocal leader. He's more of a lead by example type. No Stevie Y, no Mario I can't see anyone in this lineup that commands a great deal of respect. Its not anyone's fault, they'll just have to make sure to step up.

Hindsight is, well we know...
I just find it mind boggling that team with all that talent, which I still think on paper in far superior to any other team, was shutout in 11 of their last 12 periods. The only thing I can think of was team chemistry and leadership. I have a feeling that if Mark Messier was on this team, they'd be flying home Monday morning instead.
The only player who I really had a problem with being selected was Bertuzzi. The guy has no disipline, doesn't provide any leadership and worst of all, I don't think he's very well liked by his teamates (speculation). Bredan Shanahan would have been a far better choice. Especially considering the loss of Mario and Stevie.
Either way Gretzky's 2 for 3 picking gold medal winning lineup's so he definently deserves another shot in 2010. Quinn, I don't think will get another shot although he's hardly to blame.

Dominik Hasek cannot put a timeline on his return to the Senators' lineup due to his groin injury.
Hasek said there's "very little chance" he'll suit up for the Ottawa Senators when NHL action returns March 1st. "Of course I'm worried, I'll be honest," Hasek told reporters today, "But on the other hand, I want to do all the best to get on the ice as soon as possible, and I hope I can be in the same shape I was during the season," he added. "But I have to admit, I am worried. It's a difficult situation for me." This is not good news for the Senators, so expect rumours to heat up involving netminders as Ottawa cannot go into the playoffs with a banged-up Hasek and Ray Emery. Stay tuned.

Here's a little secret. If you want to win any of the goalie categories, don't start Garon.

Here's a cool trade rumor: " A rumor has come to my desk that the Kings may be making a play for Biron, and the Sabres may be taking JR as part of the deal"

That's what I missed about Burke...he always knew how to create a Buzz with what most people think are wierd moves. Who knows.....maybe Burke is trying to move Giggy to Vancouver for Bertuzzi?

Here's a trade rumor about the Canucks and Coyotes, taken from the 4th period website:

Coyotes, Canucks talking trade?
TheFourthPeriod.com
The Coyotes have a number of valuable assets playoff-bound teams would be interested in acquiring, and the Arizona Republic reports the Vancouver Canucks are one of those teams.
According to the Republic, rumors circulated yesterday that the Coyotes were close to making a trade with Vancouver, possibly including veterans Mike Ricci and Sean O'Donnell.
Coyotes GM Mike Barnett declined comment on the rumors, but he did acknowledge that he has received a number of phone calls since the trade freeze ended Sunday night.
"To this point, the (trade) discussions have generally originated from elsewhere," Barnett told the Republic.
It has been speculated that Paul Mara, Denis Gauthier, Derek Morris, Geoff Sanderson and Mike Comrie are all on the trade block, while Coyotes coach Wayne Gretzky confirmed that the club has received interested for goalie Curtis Joseph.
"There's a lot of teams that need goaltending or think they need a goaltending upgrade," Gretzky told the Republic. "At this point in time, we haven't thought about moving Curtis, we haven't phoned other teams to move Curtis."

If the Ducks and Panthers can outdraw the Hawks there must be some serious problems.

He just needs to learn how to pass though. Thats the only area I think crosby has him on. If he can add that to his game he wil be next next superstar.
