US looking flat. No real surprise there.

I would've taken Ryan over Wheeler. But, hey...there are some pretty competent men on the USA selection committee. And ultimately, they chose many good 2-way players overall.
And Russia looks good but, that D doesn't seem to scare anyone IMO. With that lack of blueline depth combined with a no-name goalie squad...they may have issues keeping the puck out of the net.
For me, the top teams are: Canada, USA, and Sweden...

You feel better now?
5- zip wow. They obviously had zero interest in playing that game. Can't say I blame them.

Who were you cheering for in that game anyway?

See here's the problem as I see it with sending NHL payers to the Olympics. Brooks Orpik, hate him, Patrick Kane, hate him, Dan Bylsma, hate him...
There's just too many reasons for me to dislike the USA team that unless they are playing Canada, I just cant cheer for them. On top of that if team USA won today, it would keep medals away from the Bruins. I'm happy that Loui will come home with a beautiful gold, Patrice will come home with a so so silver, and Tuukka comes back with shameful bronze. No Bruins on your roster, no medals for you.

How things might have been had Tuukka not had a bad case of the Sochi Squirts making him miss the game against Sweden.

It clearly diminished the almighty Finlandia as a whole

Is that what happened to Tuuka? He had the runs?

SOCHI, RUSSIA - A day before the gold-medal game, one of Sweden's most famous players is in an F-bomb launching foul mood.
Peter Forsberg told Swedish reporters here that having three Canadians of four officials assigned to Sunday's gold-medal game against Canada is a "bleeping joke."
Never mind that NHL officials have been working the games throughout the tournament, Forsberg ripped into the prospect of Canadian on-ice officials overseeing the game.
According to reports, Kelly Sutherland of Richmond, B.C., is one of the refs while linesmen Greg Devorski of Guelph, Ont., and Derek Amell of Port Colborne, Ont., will work the game as well.
NHL officials are part of the arrangement the league has with the IIHF for participation in the Games and the majority of those officials are Canadian.
Canadian broadcaster Don Cherry scoffed at Forsberg's rant, suggesting that the Swedes would actually be better off with a Canadian calling their game because in his experience, he has felt that officials over-react to appear on the up and up.
"The worst we can do is have a Canadian ref," Cherry said, refering to Team Canada. "Whenever we'd get a Canadian ref (in international play) it would be like 'oh no, don't tell me that.'
"It's because we in Canada don't have the guts. They'll bend over backwards to appear like they are fair. If there's any calls against Canada it would be (from) the Canadian one.
"The Swedes would get a break getting a Canadian referee. Tell Peter to watch the penalties tomorrow. I'll bet him the first one goes to a Canadian player."

Pretty certain the Americans checked outta this game after their loss to Canada. No fight put up whatsoever.
But, all hail Finland for winning the Copper medal!

If we were talking about an invasion or a war of some kind I'd agree, this was just a hockey tournament.
I don't know if I'm ready to move, but from the 39 hours I spent in Finland it seemed like a nice place. The cops drove Saab 900 turbos, classy yuppie cops.

No. I think it is more about your man-love for Rask. Put it this way, if he Congoian, you'd cheer for Team Congo's hockey team and think they'd win gold.

My alarm is set. Getting up at 6:20 so I can be at the bar for 6:40. We have a reservation for 30 right smack dab in the middle of the bar. I can't wait for the chaos after the game, in 2010 I had a roof top view of the action, this year will be ground level so it should be interesting.

I went full on rooting for Finland when they couldn't get any respect in Acurazine's Hockey Talk thread and when dom thought I had to be screwing with him thinking the team with the most medals since NHL players went to the Olympics would have a shot at a medal. One of these years they'll take the gold, would have been nice if it was this year with Tuukka between the pipes.

Sorry World. Hockey is still ours. Maybe next time.

But I've liked Bergeron longer than Tuukka and I wasn't rooting for Canada. I like Bergeron more than Loui and I'm still rooting for Sweden over Canada.

Besides that early post (which really could have changed the game) the Swedes never really got a sniff. Incredible defence. And Toews was great today too. Thank you Yummy.

Congrats
Would have been nice to see a more compelling game, sure felt anti-climactic in a hurry.
Too bad we have to wait four more years for this, but then again, that's probably what makes the Olympics thrilling: the anticipation/suspense is usually greater than the climax.
See you clowns back in the stands. With Zetterberg out for the season, black label could be right about the Wings streak coming to an end.

Anyone notice Babcock still sporting a scowl even while the Canadian anthem was playing after the medal awards. Dude, crack a smile - you just coached back to back Goldz. I'll bet he was already thinking about the Wings next game against Price.
Pretty sure Bylsma won't be invited to coach the US mens team again unless the Pengoons win 3 of the next 4 cups.

Hate to state the obvious Fibs but poor Mike was looking at getting back to Detroit without Zetterberg, having to use "the Douche" more thus having no playoffs to look forward to.

The ranking reflects the results of the 2014 Olympics and the four most recent IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships (2010-2013). A second edition of the ranking this season will be published following the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship.
Click here for the 2014 IIHF World Ranking: Men, Women.
Sweden is again followed by Finland while Canada moved up from fifth to third place after defending its Olympic title in Sochi while Russia (4th) and the Czech Republic (5th) each dropped down one place.
The United States (6th), Switzerland (7th), Slovakia (8th) and Norway (9th) remain in their positions while Latvia moved up to 10th place thanks to the quarter-final qualification at the expense of Germany (11th), which lost its Olympic Qualification tournament.
Slovenia made the biggest jump after not only qualifying for Sochi but even reaching the quarter-finals – the best performance ever by Slovenia at a top-level event even if you include Yugoslavia’s results before Slovenia’s independence. The Sochi success moved Slovenia up from 17th to 14th place.
Korea made another big move after improving results in the Olympic Qualification. The host of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games went up from 25th to 23rd place same as Great Britain, from 22nd to 20th place.

Crosby underperformed all tournament, scored 1 insurance goal and should be a hero of the gold medal game? The 2 guys who deserve top billing in that game are the guy who opened it up for Canada (with the game winning goal) and the guy who kept it closed for Sweden. That's Toews and Price.
