That was meant to be tongue in cheek. The point is, goals are hard to come by, especially at this level. For Americans unfamiliar with the game, it can seem boring, but it's not. It's like baseball, in that there are nuanced layers that make the game fascinating.

GO USA!

goals will prove to be VERY important in the group stage for the usa, czech, and italy group

also the serbia, argentina, holland group will be very tight as well

i would def consider 2-0 a pounding in the group stages bc every goal is of utmost importance to advance through, as it often can come down to goal differential. most games in group E (usa's group) will be decided by 1 goal or none i believe.

and start the clock! 12 hours until deutschland take on the costa ricans!

How do you find out what channel ESPN2HD is? We have Comcast and I did a search. Nada.

Apparently theyre switching channels around temporarily for the games

I have Time Warner and they don't have ESPN2HD. Just the standard ESPN is in HD. 1/3 of the games going to DVR will not be in HD. What fun is watching something on a 117" screen if it isn't in HD?

I think Germany's defense is playing with fire using their offside trap. Sooner or later the timing on the pass is gonna be right, and off goes Wanchope.

WTf is wrong with that commentator? He keeps mixing up Borowski. Mertesacker and Friedrich.

Even though this looked like offside, this is the second time that Friedrich fucked up and CR scored. No wonder the Germans don't like this guy. Owomoyela would have been a much better choice.

I think Borowski did a great job. He played some pretty good passes and Costa Rica couldn't do anything through the middle. I don't think that Ballack will make THAT much difference.

daaaamn didnt expect the offense to be THAT good that fast, but thats reassuring. with our crap defensive play we are going to need to just outscore everybody unless we shape things up at the back. hmm im not sure if im comfortable with lehmann back there either... kahn is too solid to pass up. oh well

solid performance for the opener without ballack.

oh and lahm and frings goals were just beautiful

Well, I don't think Lehman could have done anything about those goals.

My recommendation:

Friedrich out, put Schneider in the right fullback position and put Borowski on the right in the midfield. Next one is gonna be tough, Poland has to win.

Both Mertesacker and Metzelder looked pretty solid, Friedrich hat beide male das Abseits aufgehoben.

yea lehmann couldnt do much with those goals with the offside (death)trap we're running. im just sayin i think kahn is a better overall keeper, but lehmann is still good himself. what a problem to have hah. we will see as the tournament goes on how he will hold up.

and the midfield im not sure about yet, we'll have to see how it works once ballack is back. they played well today no doubt, possessed the ball well, im just worried about the offensive vs defensive roles mix once you throw ballack in there bc he and schweinsteiger will push up and then we're running a high defensive line. counterattacks will be our main flaw i think

Costa Rican goal wasn't offside Same thing happened against Poland. Gotta be careful with that trap.
