I agree. For some reason I find him really annoying. Sometimes I wish the US would lose because he's on the team.

I thought I was the only one who found him annoying. But I don't wish they would loose.

I don't give a shit how annoying he is. If he knocks in a couple of game winning goals, it'll all be good. It's all about the U.S. at this point.

And I wouldn't be writing off Claudio Reyna too quickly. The guy is savvy and experienced, and he can put the ball in the net.

GO USA!

I only care about Inter when I watch football. To me, that is the beauty of the World Cup. Because I don't care which team wins the Cup, I can just sit back and enjoy the matches. For me, the World Cup is more about the celebration of the game itself.

Forza Inter!!!

I'm not an enormous futbol fan by any means, but I enjoy a good competition between nations. My last memories of the World Cup involve a German defender blocking a shot with his FOREARM on the goal line against USA and not getting penalized. Apparently the head referee has had a beef with the Americans. I hope we see none of that political shit this year. I also see there is going to be a crackdown on dives, including possible red cards.

From an athletic standpoint, perhaps. But the guy just has a creative mind and instinct, perfect for midfield.

It looks like Germany will be without Ballack tomorrow. Either way, Borowski should be able to replace him for the most part.

In other news....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/5057422.stm

Police seize Maradona's watches

Italian police have stripped two Rolex watches from Argentine football legend Diego Maradona to pay off some of his 30m euros ($39m) in back taxes.
The incident happened as the former star was visiting the city of Naples on Tuesday to play in a charity match.

The tax police said it had a judicial order authorising the seizure of anything of value "within plain sight".

Maradona ran up the debt while playing for Naples in 1984-1990. He says the club should have paid the taxes.

"We were surprised he was wearing [the Rolexes] because he knows that when he comes to Italy he risks losing something," Napoli tax police officer Geremia Guercia told the Associated Press news agency.

He said Maradona "was very polite, very gentle, very calm" throughout the incident.

Together the watches are worth about 10,000 euros, Mr Guercia said.

But he hoped they could fetch far more on auction because of Maradona's enduring fame among football fans.

Last year, Italian police seized his fee for appearing in a televised show.

The footballing legend led Argentina to its 1986 World Cup triumph and captained the national team in the 1990 tournament, when it reached the final.

It's one of the best amber ales I've ever had, and I consider myself to be a bit of a beer connossieur. Only problem is, it's only available in the Puget Sound area, and even here only on tap. No bottling.

If you're ever in Seattle, definitely give it a try. Very drinkable

Good point, but if the U.S. starts to make a run, beginning with a nice ass-whuppin' of the Czech Republic, I'll behind 'em all the way. We are so overdue on the international scene.

That said, the World Cup is one hell of a spectacle, and I'll enjoy it no matter how the U.S. does.

And I'm not predicting that it will. Sure would be sweet though. The U.S. has a solid squad, so let's not write them off before the tournament even starts.

What would qualify as a US ass-whooping? 2-0?

Every game will be in HD You can see individual blades of grass....

The Czech's are very strong and here is why:
-> Milan Baros
-> Jan Polak
-> Pavel Nedved (though unlikely to play right now)
-> Jan Koller
->Petr Cech

Back to the commercial, I just have to say @ Kaka

In no way is a 2-0 score a major rout in soccer. I've seen and played in so many games where a 2-0 game was very tight throughout the whole game at 1-0 and then the team scores the 2nd goal with less than 5 minutes left.

A tie with the Checks will be a victory for the US. They are more likely to beat Italy than the Checks.

To an extent I agree with you, but those Italians always seem to find a away of squeeking through opponents (sans Brazil).

So, the best the US can hope for is a Tie, Tie, and Win. and advance on goal differential?

That's nuts. I don't see Italy's getting past the group stage. They've been choking ever since the early 90s, (excluding EC2000)

I don't think the U.S. will be able to BEAT the chech republic, but they could pull out an upset over Italy like they did against Portugal 4 years ago.

They could, but they would have to put up a good amount of Goals in the win for that to happen.
