I'd like to see someone back up the argument of the 02 Bucs D being the best of all time. I'm too lazy but I'm sure someone can find facts backing either side.

It was definetly solid. Cause their Offense sure as fuck didn't win the superbowl.

I hope hasselbeck throws 8 TDs and runs for another 3. But I still want carolina to win.

If only Orton/Grossman had Palmer's skills...

Well, who knows...they are still pups (yep, even Grossman considering he's been out with injuries practically since his draft year)...so, who knows? They may turn into Steve Youngs yet!

Here it is from Ditka himself:

Comparison

the stats are impressive too

2002 Stats

Only 150 passing yards per game and 31 INTs.

I guess what does it for me is how many games they just took over and won that year. Brooks scoring 4-5 games, Sapp saying score us 10 points and we will win or Lynch knocking out his brother in law.

I did not get to see the Bears def play only in highlights but where were the 86-87-88 defs? It is like they feel off the map. If you are talking about best defs of all time how come no one talks about Tampa who has dominated the last 10 years! Ten years, not just the 02 season.

Actually, the Bears 'great' defensive era lasted from 82-86 supposedly. I suppose when I have more time, I'll do a rant and rave about the 46 Defense being better...

The only one I'd argue that was better was the Steel Curtain. I'd also tie the 2001 Ravens in there too...Sure, T-Bay was good. But, not the best of all-time.

Ref in controversy has house vandalized

NFL referee Pete Morelli is having a rough week.

On Sunday, Morelli made one of the more controversial calls in NFL history, overturning what appeared to be an interception by the Steelers' Troy Polamalu. On Monday, his Stockton, Calif. home was vandalized, according to police reports.

Jay Glazer:
This is undeserved
Sports provide an escape, distractions for the things that really count. Therefore, people should keep the games in perspective.

Lieutenant Thomas Wells of the Stockton Police Department told FOXSports.com's Jay Glazer that a police report was filed after a rock was thrown through Morelli's living room window late Monday night after Morelli and his wife had gone to bed. Lt. Wells emphasized that police had no suspect and no motive in the case and could not say with any degree of certainty whether the act of vandalism was related to Sunday's call.

"We are aware of the situation and we're cooperating with police in any way we can," said NFL spokesman Greg Aiello.

On Monday, the NFL admitted that Morelli had erred when he used instant replay to overturn the interception. Mike Pereira, the league's VP of officiating, said in a statement that the call on the field should have stood.

"He maintained possession long enough to establish a catch," Pereira said. "Therefore, the replay review should have upheld the call on the field that it was a catch and fumble."

Fortunately for Morelli — and the Steelers — while the botched call allowed the Colts to eventually pull within a field goal, it ultimately did not play any role in the outcome of the game, which Pittsburgh won, 21-18.

I didn't see this until after I made that original post

Yep you never know. Injuries are bite in the ass for everyone, and somehow Grossman is just unlucky I guess. Hopefully he can play '06 injury free

Also:

85 Bears Stats

The 02 Bucs let up less yards the entire season but 3 less INT. I could not find the Bears stats on FF but the bucs created 15.

The one stat that remains different is the 12 Bears TDs

I don't know if that includes post season but I can think of atleast 5 in that post season that would get the bucs from 6 to 11.

I think we also could all agree that the passing game is miles ahead of where it was in 85'

Yes sure.

The prima donna WRs are so well protected now, you can't even look at them without drawing a flag.

I dunno, I'm not saying you're out to lunch as you may have noted in my replies. But, I also don't agree with you. We can go back and forth about this for pages and still no clearcut proof.

well as far as the uniforms, i don't really pay much attention to that, except there are some uniforms out there, not just seattle, that have some really not so great looks to it that just can't be ignored (ex. bengals and their stripes..ugh).

haha well anyway, both afc and nfc games are gonna be really good..i'm excited about the weekend

i remember seeing i think on espn or actually one of the commentators during a football game that had the top 5 ranking defenses of all time. i think the top one was the 85 bears, then it was the 02? (whichever year the ravens won the superbowl) ravens, then i think it was the 05 bears, and i think the 02 bucs were in it too..i forget

Just been a bucs fans since 86. I just hope the texans win for something to talk about at work Monday. I normally go to one game and year and unfortunately they are going to take Young not Bush.

Why would they take Young? Didn't they just sign up Carr?

Since you were 7?

Well the rumor is that Carr is going to the phins for williams and some draft pick. I think they are going to take Young because the hype. The media won't let them take Bush. Everyone here that has heard of the Texans and is a "Monday morning QB" thinks Young is the only answer. Everynight there is a special report on a VY siting or report on him.

First game I went to was the Bucs and 49ers. I loved the jerseys! Have not missed watching a play since about 1995.

My suggestion, get a offensive line first then build a offense around that.. But IMO Young isn't the answer.. I like what Carr has done..

That # of TDs allowed stat is pretty telling. As far as position by position I'd say Chicago had a slightly better front 7 and TB slightly better secondary.

I agree with Jonesi about Carr. We'd love to have him here. Not to mention, I've heard of scouts trashing Young's game while Bush is very solid. Isn't Jonathan Wells a free agent and I guess Dom Davis will compete for #1.

Carr, TO, Ronny Brown full time, Chambers, Saban

Wow you could have a pretty stout offense next year.

Don't forget McMichael at TE. Plus with some picks on the line and plenty of cap space the possibilities look good. However our Off. Coord. is going to be the next Rams coach. He was the coord. for the Vikings when Moss was there.

Vince Young update:

Now they have a song "Pick yound or else."

Also people in Houston have started a petition for VY.

And you wonder why the Texans use every year as a "expansion" years. Because of the stupidity around here they will not have 1/2 the success the Panthers and Jags have had.

Yep...Dolphins will be a force next year, with or without T.O. As far as losing Linehan goes. If I saw one more reverse, double reverse, or end around run by Chambers for a loss, I was goona puke.

The Seahawks joined the league in 1976 as a member of the NFC West division. The franchise's first win came on October 17 when they beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 13-10 at Tampa Bay. On November 7 they won their first home game in a 30-13 victory over the Atlanta Falcons. A year later, they switched conferences with their expansion partners, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and joined the AFC West.

The team played in the American Football Conference until 2002, when, with league realignment, they were returned to the National Football Conference. The team resisted the move initially, but because the other AFC West teams (Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs, Raiders) were original AFL franchises, they were unable to prevent the move.

The Jets off. coord. Heimerdinger (sp) looks like is being kept by Mangini. Hopefully we can rent Mike Martz this year.

What vacancies are left? Oakland and Buffalo?

pittsburgh @ Denver

carolina @ seattle

now i have to pick total points for both games...
