That looks SICK! Can't believe they went that aggressive with the Accord. Honda continues to raise the bar on the Accord and make it tougher and tougher to select a TLX over one. The only way that thing won't eat off TLX sales is if they differentiate the drivetrains enough.

Looks more like a Chevy Malibu killer. Well - if you can overlook the god awful grill!!

Would need to see more pix from different angles, but from the pix above, looks like a huge disappointment. For whatever reason, I see Subaru in the shot of the the rear...........

2020 Acura RLX Advance
A selling advantage on the 2018 Accord will be the availability of a short throw 6 speed stick on both the 1.5T and the 2.0T engines, but only on the base (Sport) trim levels. Impressive that all of the Accords will have Adaptive Damper system suspension and available head-up display for a main stream car.

My initial impressions are:
I like the wheels
It kind of looks like a hatchback but it isn't. Not a fan of that style myself.
Civic tail lights.
Regardless of my opinion they will probably outsell TLX 10 to 1.

Good, let the TLX be a little bit more exclusive. Been seeing too many around lately; probably because of the great incentives on the 2017.

Our TLX's look a lot better; the TLX is a car that looks much better in real life where the sun brings out it's design elements. I love having my GLM out in the sun where you can see the design lines, etc.

Definitely not a TLX killer.
Looks good to me! I love the 9G Accord's look better, though.

PS when will the fastback sedan trend die? It was one thing when Audi was doing it for the A7, it was revolutionary then.....then everyone started doing it. It's the new Hofmeister Kink. Still, the new Accord looks good to me.

I don't like it at all. The tail lights look awful and there is something really wrong with the front end/hood/overall shape. Very dissapointed to be honest. I mean I wasn't expecting it to look good, I wasn't expecting it to be ugly though.

I'm in the opposite camp - I was expecting it to be nice looking. Not just another Chevy Malibu/Hyundai Sonata etc etc.
I guess there may be a lot of pressure to follow the current trend.

the pic in white looks underwhelming, but it looks better here:
2018 Honda Accord Static and Running Footage -Accord - Honda News
What's the most interesting to me is the all digital guage cluster (starting @ 2:00), with the option to turn the tachometer to display navigation (and others). Hopefully they perfect it to be closer like Audi's virtual cockpit by them time this hits Acura models

The outside is ok but I am wow'd by the features. They put a HUD(really?? in the Accord before the TLX, 4G LTE wifi, the Honda Link has remote start(kind of pissed about that) and street sign recognition.... I mean sheesh, how are we still equipping the Honda with more tech than the Acura??? I get adding little things here and there but damn, all the goodies that I would want in my TLX I would have to buy in an Accord???? I guess I can wait til the TLX redesign but damn another 2 years? Honda is wild...

I like the tech and overall I think it looks pretty good. What I don't like is all the black plastic under the chrome on the front. It looks "unfinished"...like there is a huge gap there. The digital displays are nice.

This is what happens when you have idiots running a company. No company with a brain would put better or newer tech in their lower tier models before the upper tier models. Don't get me wrong, I'm VERY impressed with the feature set, I'm also excited to see where it takes Acura in the next couple of years. But this stuff should have been on the TLX in 2015, not now.
Also note - when the TLX came out in 15 it was full of tech stuff not available on the Accord. All the Acura watch stuff. Things happen pretty fast in the tech world these days...

The Accord is a cash cow. They have to compete with myriad mid-sized sedans - all of which are trying to win with superior tech.

The two cars must be different trim levels as the gray? one has a more aggressive front end than the white one.

It looks like the front end isn't finished...

As to the original question, I think the new Accord is a 2.4L TLX killer, but it doesn't really compete with the TLX V6 with SH-AWD. It looks like SH-AWD will remain exclusive to Acura for awhile, which is the right call IMO. And the elimination of the V6 Accord means the V6 is now exclusive to Acura (for sedans) as well.
The next ILX and TLX should be fantastic on the new platforms, and the ILX should present a serious challenge to the A3 et al. But their delays relative to the new Civic and Accord are real problems for Acura IMO, especially for the ILX because at least the TLX has the distinctive V6 SH-AWD drivetrain. I cannot believe the Civic has been out for a year, with the Si and Type-R variants already roaming the streets, and the ILX is still trudging along on the old 9G Civic platform, with less torque than the Civic Si. The next gen cannot arrive soon enough.
I'll reserve judgment on the new Accord's looks until I see one, but I'm very excited about the 2.0T/6MT combo with Honda Sensing.

what IS Honda's obsession with equipping all their cars with wheels that look like salad shooters?
I'm indifferent on the car as a whole. Would need to see one in the flesh.

They are better looking than most of the wheels they put on Acuras lately. If I recall correctly the TLX concept had that kind of wheel design and it didn't look too bad with them.

OK, I am officially and old fart now as the exterior is too edgy for me. All these new cars are targeting milenials. I hope the TLX does not get this edgy. What happened to classy sexy cars, oh right a half dozen Tramsformer movies...
i do do like the interior feature list.
