So since he posted that publicly on twitter for everyone to see he needs to post it on their website?
Isn't twitter already public? His tweets aren't locked down so only approved followers can see them. Anyone can look him up on twitter and see it. Am I misunderstanding something?

I don't know for sure (I'm not an attorney; I used to audit publicly traded companies back in the day). I just know that the SEC has been very unhappy with companies (and their leaders) making public statements regarding financial performance without doing it through the appropriate channels (e.g. usually on a Form 8-K). I suspect, but don't know, that the SEC would not consider Twitter to be a sufficiently public forum for such a disclosure. For example, despite release of certain recent information on its website, the Company still had to file an 8-K about the matter - https://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/d...d124215d8k.htm.
The other thing that has me wondering how they would view his tweet is their ongoing warnings to pubic companies about making pro-forma non-GAAP projections in the press and their established guidance on the topic (for example - https://www.sec.gov/rules/final/33-8176.htm). This would seem to fall into that category.
Wow, all those preorders. Good thing my next daily driver in 18 months is likely to be a 3G CTS-V. I'd have really had to stand in line yesterday to have a model 3 by the time my lease runs out. The V will be more reliable, too.
4) I bet money that people higher in line will sell their place for a profit.
Not without Tesla's approval. It's stated in the reservation agreement. Same thing happened when Model S and X came out; No reservation transfers to another person.
Tesla contacts the person who placed and paid for the reservation when they're about to produce the car. That person then configures the Model 3 to their liking and signs a purchase agreement. The $1,000 deposit for the reservation then gets applied to the price of the configured car.
I suppose the person who made the reservation could configure the Model 3 to what another person wants, and then when he takes delivery of the Model 3, he can sell it to that other person. Set up an escrow account? Seems like it'd be a hassle to do this. And I don't think the other person will be able to get the $7,500 tax credit, if it's still available.
While this Reservation secures the approximate delivery priority within your region, it does not constitute the purchase or order of a vehicle. When the start of production for your Reservation nears, we will ask you to configure your Model 3. Tesla will create an order for your vehicle and you will receive a Purchase Agreement indicating the purchase price of the vehicle, plus estimates of any applicable taxes, duties, transport and delivery charges, and any other applicable fees. If you proceed with the order, we will apply your Reservation Payment wards the order payment. Until you enter into a Purchase Agreement, your Reservation may be cancelled at any time, in which case you will receive a full refund of your Reservation Payment.
4. Acknowledgements ; Non-Transferable
You understand that we will not hold your Reservation Payment separately or in an escrow or trust fund or pay any interest on your Reservation Payment. Your Reservation is not transferable or assignable to another party without the prior written approval of Tesla.
There are going to be many people waiting a long time for their Model 3's. A really really long time.
Tesla built and delivered 50,658 cars in all of 2015 (50,452 = Model S and 206 = Model X)
They hope to build and deliver 80,000 to 90,000 Model S's and Model X's for 2016.
They want to build and deliver 500,000 cars by 2020.
They're going to have to do some major factory building and expansions, and hire a shit ton of people.
Tesla's also going to have to raise a lot more money too. At the end of Dec. 31, 2015, they had cash and cash equivalents on hand of $1.196 billion. They plan to spend $1.5 billion in 2016 to "add more production capacity, start cell production at the Gigafactory, and establish additional customer support infrastructure."
Tesla does not have SUVs, trucks, minivan. so its all mostly cars. plus there production is centered around California. super expensive state. unless they employ some very advanced robots. they will simply run out of money.
Model X is the safest, fastest and most capable sport utility vehicle in history. With all-wheel drive and a 90 kWh battery providing 257 miles of range, Model X has ample seating for seven adults and all of their gear. And it’s ludicrously fast, accelerating from zero to 60 miles per hour in as quick as 3.2 seconds.

Model X is the SUV uncompromised.
this more like handbuilt SUV. and certainly its not most capable SUV either. try them in sand dunes of arabia and see how long it last. it will simply melt in desert heat.
The RTI indix of LC is 15 times of Ford Explorer.

You really are the dumbest fuck that is the result of two others' dumb fucking.
People already tweeting it's living up to the hype? At least 1-2 years before the car even actually is available.....the circle jerk is strong with Tesla.
But yeah, good way to raise 200+M interest free loan
You really are the dumbest fuck that is the result of two others' dumb fucking.
those claims of Tesla as having most capable SUV is hore dung. Toyota is global SUV king with transaction prices well above $100k. they are well in way of $40b profits a year since diesel gate has crripled VW.

This car had better do everything it says, as well as a lap dance, cook your meals, and be as close to perfect as humanly possible for a car, in order for someone to potentially wait months (years??) for their car.

I'll say it again. People waiting for the Model S' and people are still waiting for the X.
Will everyone wait for this, no, but more will than wont.

Regarding the lack of a grille... the design isn't finalized yet.
Elon Musk @elonmusk
Tomorrow is Part 1 of the Model 3 unveil. Part 2, which takes things to another level, will be closer to production.

Regarding the lack of a grille... the design isn't finalized yet.
Yeah looks very unfinished.
Weird how we're so used to the grille as an integral part of how a car front end should look...will be interesting to see what they do with that space. Looks odd with a blank look there
Should look something like a downsized Model S. The profile and rear of the Model S/X make it painfully obvious the two vehicles came from the same manufacturer.
While Tesla does make good looking cars, they look too similar to each other. You can still see the similar shape of the Model S "grille" when you look at the Model X front bumper. I predict something similar with the Model 3.
I think that has to do with the fact that electric cars focus on aerodynamics more than most gas powered cars. Notice the prius, volt, model x, and model 3 all have the almost hatchback like rear ends (IDK the technical term).
when was the last time they exceeded shipment expectation?
Don't know about quarterly delivery goals/expectations, but for full year deliveries since the introduction of the Model S in 2012, the only year they met or exceeded delivery goals/expectations was for 2013. Every other year they missed.
Tesla will be publishing regular updates about the event on June 22nd, as described in this company blog post. Model S test-drive events will begin rolling out to select North American cities in July. Tesla will be ramping up production throughout 2012 and plans to deliver 5,000 vehicles by year end. Reservations for the premium electric sedan currently exceed 10,000.
Tesla Motors, Inc. – Fourth Quarter & Full Year 2012 Shareholder Letter dated February 20, 2013.
In the quarter, we also began to scale our delivery strategies. Both personal home delivery and factory pick-up were very popular delivery options for customers. However, we faced some challenges scheduling deliveries near the end of Q4 as our peak production coincided with vacations during the holiday season. As a result, we delivered approximately 2,400 Model S vehicles during the quarter and about 2,650 for the year.
Our most significant achievement in Q4 was the successful ramp of production volume to more than 400 vehicles per week for three consecutive weeks in December, and this has continued at a consistent rate in Q1. This established a production level that will allow us to achieve our goal of 20,000 Model S deliveries in 2013. We produced over 2,750 vehicles during the quarter and more than 3,100 vehicles during the full year, while maintaining our stringent quality standards.
Last quarter, we had record deliveries of 6,892 vehicles and exceeded our target automotive gross margin of 25%, achieving 25.2% on a non-GAAP basis and 25.8% on a GAAP basis. This capped a year in which we delivered 22,477 vehicles, resulting in almost $2.5 billion in sales on a non-GAAP basis and over $2 billion in sales on a GAAP basis.
Tesla shares were up as much as 4% in early Friday trading after reporting adjusted earnings and revenue that beat expectations Wednesday afternoon.
The big news was that they now envision delivering 100,000 vehicles on an annualized basis next year. This year their goal is a little more than 50,000, so this is a huge leap.
Tesla Q4 Hit By Delivery Shortfall, But Company Expects To Be Back On Track In Q1
Feb 11, 2015
Electric car manufacturer Tesla reported earnings today following the bell, including $1.1 billion in non-GAAP revenue, and an adjusted loss per share of $0.13. On a GAAP basis, using normal accounting methods, Tesla had a wider loss of 86 cents per share, and revenue of $957 million.
The company delivered 9,834 cars in the period. In the sequentially preceding third quarter, Tesla delivered a comparable 7,785 Model S vehicles. For the full-year period, Tesla delivered 31,655 cars.
Tesla Ready to Pump Out 100,000 Cars Per Year by 2015
July 31, 2014
With investors far more interested in what’s ahead than what’s happening right now, Musk predicted that Tesla should be capable of delivering more than 100,000 cars per year by the end of 2015. He expects about half to be the existing Model S sedan and the other half to be the Model X, which will start shipping early next year.
Tesla Motors Inc. said it delivered 17,400 vehicles in the fourth quarter, setting a new company record by putting out a flurry of Model S sedans and some Model X sport utility vehicles, but the stock market wasn’t impressed.
Tesla’s previous record was 11,580 deliveries, which it posted in last year's third quarter. In all of 2015, Tesla delivered 50,580 vehicles.

If the front of the production model stays empty like that, I'm going to start a business printing and selling vinyl stick-on grilles.

I'd expect the Model 3 to have a grille similar to the Model X. Musk/Tesla said they minimized the grille on the Model X to reduce drag and help with mileage.
