Is that big screen supposed to be the gauge cluster or is there something I'm not seeing?

Nope. You got it.

That janky looking tacked on bit of kit is the "everything" screen.

Thanks for the better photos. Looks better than the first few shots I saw.
Agree that the front end looks unfinished with what looks like a covered up grille area.

Interior a bit too spartan for me, these are pre-production cars right? I don't mind the TV in the center, but put in something for 'traditional' gauges behind the wheel.

Just read this:

Today a Tesla spokesperson told Jalopnik that “while Model 3 is still a prototype, the interior is reflective of our production intention.” And during our livecasted quick spin in the car last night, one of the chief engineers said that this is what they intend to do with the car.
Sooo... That might be it.

Maybe it's just me, but that car looks like a cheap piece of crap. If Acura released something like that, even with the electric SH system, for 35k, they'd be torn to shreds. No idea how this is even remotely acceptable.

Maybe Tesla left it sparse on purpose so there's less stuff to break

Any chance it's a hatchback like the Model S?

Not a fan of the barren dash in front of the drivers. Reminds me of the Yaris, Mini and all other cars that prove that a center-mounted driver display sucks.

It better have a HUD to make up for that.

I'm already not looking forward to the people who will be driving these. It'll be a cross between Prius drivers and Smart car drivers, telling us how they drive the best car in the world and how we're all terrible humans for driving our primitive gasoline/diesel powered cars. Sigh...

1) the model x doesn't have a grille. It's the one big design cue I don't like about the car. But a license plate will break it up.

2) tesla can get away with a sparse interior because that's been their MO. the model s is pretty sparse. Not as minimal as this...but close.

It's all moving towards autonomous driving with them. It's very clean and will getting used to. But they went out of their way to reinvent the wheel and people are knocking the change. Bound to happen.

As an earlier article mentioned, the tax rebate will likely be gone by the time the first Model 3 comes out (200K limit will be reached with sales of all other models by late 2017).

I wonder how much of that $7.5B that Musk is crowing about will vaporize over the next few years as early deposit nerds start pulling back their reserves.

I'm no market expert, but that could be bad for their stock, no?

My guess is the future of this company hinges on the success of this car.

And remember, Elon states tesla was never meant to be successful. The original roadster was an experiment is what could be done with electric vehicles. Everything after was a fluke.

So no matter what happens this company has been huge on the auto industry and its effects will be felt from now on.

There stock has been extremely well for profit taking

Even if one didn't get in very early and dump it last summer at 273, you could have bought for 144 couple of weeks ago and dumped at 244 today

You can make enough money from Elon to pay for teslas, properties etc

Even if you don't buy or believe in their product, it's been an excellent money maker!

The shape definitely makes me think hatchback

Still, the dash behind the wheel looks so unfinished/barren.

regardless... Tesla just sold more cars with 1 model in 1 day than Acura could in 1 year

I saw a picture on FB, there is a line (think a waiting line for a newly release Iphone) for this at Brea Mall....

I just do not understand.

They're going to have to do something to meet demand or they'll lose sales because people aren't going to wait until 2020 to get one

Maybe they will shutdown the preorders soon.

I wonder if you can sell your spot in line on ebay?

Well the Florida dealer that is getting 10 nsx, order #7 is being sold for $10,000

1) people waited for the Model S as it filled back orders.

2) people are waiting for Model X as they getting orders filled from YEARS ago.

3) if that factory can truly build 500k units a year...orders will fill faster.

4) I bet money that people higher in line will sell their place for a profit.

2 years from now many of those who put down the $1K will not be wiling to fork over the other $40K+ for the car, especially when they find out the $7500 kickback they were planning on is gone.

If that's really what the interior will look like then I'm out. I couldn't live with that. I'll save my pennies for a Model S some day...used.

It looks good to me, especially in that matte gray. It's supposed to be a minimalist type car. It doesn't need gas and to charge it is only like 6 dollars. This is perfect for those of us who live in the city and don't need to drive alot.

^^^Eh.

I personally wouldn't spend 40k on a car that I won't drive that much.

I'd get a cheap, used manual Fit....you'll save tons of money as well, can haul things and gets great mileage.

Maybe you're right for the early adopters. But at some point normal people non techy, people that aren't willing to be beta testers won't. But most of these people are probably willing to wait. But if someone walks into a Tesla store in 2018 and wants to buy one but then finds out they're back ordered for a year or more they'll go elsewhere.

This is kind of the breaking point of it all, IMHO. Most casual drivers don't want to change cars until they feel they have to. At that point, they're almost always needing a car almost immediately. There's "no hurry up and wait" option.

I can get an equally nice BMW (or cheaper Acura for that matter) and not have to wait.

If my wife charges cars the way she charges phones the car would always be at 2% when she's ready to leave the house.

Locally it's $1200-2000 for me

There used to be a $2500 rebate, now it's $750
