Best Frankenstein J series for my UA5 TL-S?

So as...practically none of you know, I was once going to build up my J32a2, but unfortunately my budget for that was thrown out the window (long story short, aunt in Ireland got cancer, went to see her, roundtrip plus hotel cost a boatload) Now slowly but surely I'm getting money back to buildup my TL-S. I want to know what the best base engine (that would be an easy direct swap) would be, and what parts should be use, let's make this our project (just with my $). Hopefully OP will be able to finish this time around, but things are looking better. I was thinking either J32a2, J35a3, or J35a4 as starting engine, anyone have any suggestions, please feel free to chime in.

Most people go with the CL-S 6spd tranny or Oddy tranny.

J35A3 is the way to go, 05+ Accord V6 trans if you don't want to 6-speed swap.

I believe that there is someone on here with a stroked j32a2 block and heads up to a j35 and I think you can do the same with a j35 stroked to a j37? Those would be your best options for a motor build if you aren't considering forced induction. A stroked j series with a few bolt on's would be able to put down a pretty healthy amount of hp and ft/lbs. Of torque throughout your rpm range

I've heard of swapping pistons to rl pistons (they're both 89mm but rl has 11.0:1 compression) then boring it out to 90mm, and also stroking my j32a2 from 86mm to 96mm making it have a displacement of 3.66 or 3.7L, and since the J32A2 comes stock with the best cams...but I heard of j35a3 having an advantage or something, is that true?

This is an interesting discussion, I'd love to have something close to a 3.7 in mine.

j35A3, 3.7 crank, rods, pistons (bored 1mm over to 90mm), J35a7 or J37a1 cams, CL-s 6 speed. Its the setup i have in mine. It will easily spin 275/35/18s in 2nd

Rods and pistons from the 3.7 or the j35A3? I've heard of some people using the RL pistons (and maybe rods). What's the service limit of the bores on the J35A3? I've heard it's close to 90mm.

Is everything else from the J35A3 other than what you mentioned (e.g. IM/TB/fuel pump, etc)? Do you keep using the TL ECU?

Also, regarding the CL-S 6MT, I've kept my eye on those but have had a hard time finding them. I've heard there are other 6MT/LSD trans that will fit, do you know which ones those are?

Sorry about all the questions and thanks in advance :P

Everything from the 3.7. There is no need to run the RL pistons. People were running the 3.5 rl pistons when they werent boring the motor. It would be best to use the 3.7 intake manifold and a 76mm tb to get best possible flow but the 3.5 intake will work. 90 mm is beyond factory service limit but as long as you arent boosting it will be ok. Also do NOT have the cyl walls honed. They NEED to be smooth for the 3.7 rings or you will get lots of blow by and consume oil. Yes, keep your stock ECU.

There arent any other 6 speed lsd trans that bolt up. The 6 speed TL-S trans has a different bell housing, and the 6 speed from the 04-06 tl dont have the sensor needed to run with the CL-S ecu. Now if you run the AEM standalone that wouldnt matter.

thread resurrection!!

Sorry for resurrecting such an old thread guys. 😅 I just wanted some clarity. I’m beginnig my swap consisting of a j35a3 with j32a2 heads and a j37 mani into a tlp. My 2 questions are.....if I want to have the same shift points on my rpm band as the type s, would I need to use a type s ecu? If so.....what happens with vsa?
