Talking '05 rl in snow video

Here's a 4 minute video from Minnesota...Tampa RL, I'm sure you'll have some smartass remark about either 4 minutes or Minnesota, bring it!

I had to replace the transmission at 265,000 miles, but the engine is just as strong as day 1.

Actually, my remarks are on a different subject, FN.

First, congratulations on endangering hundreds of other motorists in order to create a show-off video for a handful of other Acura geeks like me. They don't make winter tires good enough that you could have stopped your car in time if any of your several dozen irresponsible moves, such as passing illegally in the right in crowded traffic on matted snow, had required a sudden stop. That's pure physics, and even the excellence of an RL can't save you then.

Second, know that Ronald Reagan quote you're displaying? Know what he was talking about? He was saying the end of American freedom would come if the Democrats passed Medicare. The more things change....

Is this the first time you're replacing the transmission or the second?
How often do you replace the AT & differential fluid?

When your transmission went south did it just start slipping badly or something else? How often were you changing the ATF? I'm just kinda curious because when mine is cold the shift from 1st to 2nd is a little laggy.

Thanks for checking in, FN P90! It's always good to hear from you.

All I can say is.....what snow tires are you running? Hakkapeliittas?

Now we all know the answer to how long our trannies last. How much was it to replace?

I maintain that Acura needs to put you in an ad.

First, let me say to you, sir, YOU ARE AN IDIOT! With that being said, I never passed anybody illegally on the right or left, as there was a lane that was covered by snow, which has much more traction than the icy lanes where people were driving 40 miles per hour LESS than the POSTED speed limits! At no time did I ever break the posted speed limits either.

Secondly, did it look like I was out of control? Did you see anyone die as a result of my driving the posted or less than the posted speed limit?

Thirdly, go crawl back into the hole, from which you slithered, and get a life!

I bet you're one of the left-lane douche's who play road cop and keep people from passing you too? Am I correct? Yep.

HAHA, Dunlop Winter Sport M3 I think.

Transmission was $4000 at the dealership. Another dealership quoted $6000!!
So I had them do the timing belt, water pump, etc., so it was just under $6K. A week after that my radiator started to leak a bit, so they replaced that for $800, which was a good guy price, I guess.

This was the first time for replacement. I usually replace fluids every 35 - 50K or so, but I think I let it slide for too long, like 75K or more and that might have been the nail in the coffin. From now on, every 30K!! It only takes a few minutes to do it yourself. Drain, fill, run through the gears a bit, drain and re-fill and you're done.

Just to calm the waters......

FN P90 did not purposely create a 'show off video'. For business purposes there is a dash cam in his RL.

Second, the video is condensed and not at real time viewing speed. How can one judge driving maneuvers as unsafe when it is not viewed in real time speed?

I do not believe it was a video created for AZ, but instead was simply a record of a typical day. FN P90 simply chose to share it with our community as there have been several video posts of driving in snow.

Last, attacking one's political views, though protected under our constitution, does not advance anyone's viewpoint or endear us to those who do not share our views. Tolerating opposing views is what makes our nation great. Engaging those with opposing views in healthy dialog not only is a more mature approach but more likely to find middle ground where respect for both parties can be achieved. But that is conversation for another forum.

I lol'ed at the video. Loved it!

Quick question about your new transmission...How does it feel when switching gears (Especially in out of 3rd gear) compared to the old, stock transmission?

Tampa, I respect your views and I hate it that you're the one I'm arguing with (again). I'm also observant enough to note that my reply is not likely to be as well received as yours. But a couple of specific points:

1) His car may be camera-equipped, but he chose to post the results.

2) I know it's not actual speed, which makes it hard to judge. But on re-watching to confirm my suspicions, he passes many cars and few pass him; he's often going far faster than the general speed of surrounding traffic, a less-than-optimum safety strategy even on a dry road; and he does make, shall we say, non-textbook passing maneuvers.

3) I am not the one who introduced partisan politics into this automotive thread. I merely replied to it -- accurately, I might add.

Now, have at it. I promise I won't reply again, no matter how badly I'm bloodied. I've had enough for one thread.

1) Yes, you are correct.

2) Please send me the textbook. I was never speeding, I used my turn signals, I was never tail-gating. The trip was nearly 75 MILES in a 4 minute video--My God, I was doing like 1500 MPH or so!! Now that's a fast Acura!

3) Yes, you did bring up politics. It is a quote about freedom, I didn't ask that you respond to it.

You are really being a jerk and need to lighten up. I do a lot of driving and have nearly 280,000 miles on my 2005 Acura RL, I have never caused an accident, nor been involved in one.

Do you play road cop in the left lane? If somebody is going faster than the general traffic, do you move over into his lane and force him to slow down?
You have some serious issues, dude. Stop being a controlling moron.

Primarily a MN phenomenon. Won't move over, but will speed up to race you. Typical MN passive/aggressive. I have become quite adept at hitting V-TEC in 3rd gear to get around these clowns. They never see it coming- This car is such a sleeper!

We have plenty of those in LI too. They are one of the most annoying type of drivers IMO & are one reason why traffic starts to build up. I too find it highly satisfying to burn them though .

I know this is an ancient post, but I still wanted to chime in. I read all the posts before watching the video, so I expected to see reckless driving or some sort. All I saw was a time lapse video that makes it impossible to tell how fast he's driving. People... please calm yourself. No need to get upset at random things on the internet.

I like the video. My TL will have to deal with some snow at 9,000 feet this year at the Snowbowl resort. I might make a similar vid. Blizzaks should help.
