Tint and Tickets?

Hi all - I'm getting tint installed on my '11 BWP TSX this weekend at Genesis in Rocklin. I have 2 questions:

1. All the praise of Genesis Tint seems to come from the Elk Grove location - is the Rocklin location just as good?

2. I want to get the same tint percentage on all 5 windows, but I'm worried about being pulled over for having too dark of tint on my driver/passenger's side windows. I know there's around 85%(maybe 95%?) from the factory so I was thinking of getting either 35% or 40%. I would love any feedback on your experience being pulled over (or not!) for tint in the Sac/Folsom area. Thanks in advance!!

cali laws...nothing on the front (70% at most IIRC, which is factory) and as dark as you want in the back.

depends on the mood of the cops. i dont' think they are nearly as anal about it as they are in VA where they pull you over JUST for tint. in CA, i think they only go after you if you do something else (speeding or other moving violation).

i had tint on myfront windows of my civic HB way back when i did live in cali...i had no issues in the 5 or so yrs i drove the car there. i think it was 35% (don't really know since i bought the car used). things may have changed since i've moved to the other coast (still miss cali though).

For #2, technically you're not allowed to tint the fronts side windows at all. The color of interior and exterior can play into account also. Black interiors will kinda make the tint look darker. White cars with really dark tints stand out also.

If you want to avoid getting a ticket but still have tints: it's best to have a distinct contrast between the rear and front windows. Like go 20% or darker for the rears and go 50% or lighter for the fronts. I know it's ugly, but you'll have the UV and heat protection from the tint. The chances of getting pulled over are slimmer also.

I have a black/black TL and tinted 20% all around. I take my chances because I wanted my tint to match all around.

Good luck.

I have pearl with tan interior. 20 all around except i have 15 in the rear (which doesnt matter in cali since rears can be anything) it took me a year to get pulled over for it.. cloudy morning leaving school and a CHP passed by me. i went on with my drive and he flips a U just to give me a tint ticket. he ends up telling me he has a 2004 TL so im guessing he was just jelly of my car haha.

overall, if youre willing to take the risk then go for 20s! i just heard CHP are more anal about tints than city cops, which was sorta proven to me since i got a fix it from a CHP but who really knows lol..

highly doubt u'll ever get pulled over JUST for tint, and if u ever do ur supposed to roll down both front windows, helps people with tint and the officer might talk to u from either side.

Thanks all - I think I may go 40% - with the factory tint it'll probably end up around 30-35%. I really can't stand having different color tint in the front. I know it won't look as good as 20% all around but cops are just a hassle I don't want to deal with.

honestly its not THAT bad with the mixed tint. i have VA legal tint on my TL. (50 fr/35 back) and it certainly doesn't look horrible. the black interior helps it look a lot darker.

if you go darker...you gotta pay to play. actually, before you tint the car take a picture of your car with the fish bowl look. sometimes if you do a fix it tix, you can show the judge the fish bowl pic and say you got it fixed (just dont' drive YOUR car to the courthouse).

First time I drove out to the bay and CHP pulled me over for having 30% all around on a cloudy day. I was never hassled by sac cops before then. I redid the front tint at 50% and have been trouble free for 3 years. Light tint is better then no tint at all. If I get pulled over again in the future, I'm going with 85%.

Genisus Window Tinting is the shit, I've only dealt with EG but I'm sure Rocklin is just as good.

Been driving around the bay with 20% tint all around on my white TL and i've been pulled over 3x over the span of 2 years and have been let go with a warning on all occasions. Just depends on how the cops are feeling when they pull you over :\

Lol, well actually the third time, CHP pulled me over and told me I had a choice, either take my front tints off or mount my front plate. I picked the latter, and ziptied my plate and got it signed off..made sure my windows were rolled down when i did that though

i'm 35% all around, honestly if a cop were to pull someone over they should megaphone "roll your windows down" so they don't have to worry about hidden weapons behind a tinted car... not hard to do

Tint at your own risk. Even if you get light tint all the way around it'll seem darker during cloudy days.
