Well, considering Ferrari spent 6 weeks in the wind tunnel with new parts that gave them .3 seconds of a lap gain ( in the best of conditions which aero parts were not on the car in Canada) and they still lost by a HUGE margin, any words from Alonso are only a signal that he is going elsewhere next year. Ferrari is throwing good money after bad and do not have a clue how to get it right apparently. This is a hard pill for me as I'm a 30 year fan of the Scuderia.

Anyone have a link to the FIA's reason for the Perez penalty? If anyone should have got a penalty, it was Massa.

All I have read anywhere, is that "Perez changed his racing line which caused the impact with Massa." Of course he changed his racing line-he was turning left, why wouldn't his car when ahead of Massa be GOING left??
These stewards are out of control. Simply because there is a collision doesn't mean there has to be someone to blame every time.

~1/3 of the season through and McLaren and Ferrari are pretty dismal for the results they are showing.
Considering how well Williams was running at Canada until the last lap they would have overtaken McLaren in the CC points. Both Force India and Williams are showing better race pace than McLaren with the same powerplant. I was also expecting better car from Ferrari with Rory Bryne back but perhaps he still needs more time to re-acclimate himself into the Ferrari structure (not a easy task as has been written about).

The luckiest guy at Canada was Vettel, he very narrowly avoided
a bad collision with Massa's Williams as it came across his path in the middle of the turn. Reminded me of when Alonso's helmet was almost was hit by Grosjean's Lotus few years back.

I watched it in slow motion a few times and could not tell who was at fault.

As a Button fan, I hope Alonso stays with Scuderia. We've all heard the rumors that Ron Dennis wants to court Alonso back to McLaren - and if that happens, I assume Button will be cut. (I can't see McLaren pulling another one-season wonder stunt for the second year in a row and jettisoning Magnussen.)
I'd like to see Button drive for McLaren-Honda in 2015.

Same here, but McLaren has done any contract yet with Button for 2015 so I think Ron has other plans. Had 2013 been like his 2011 or maybe 2012, I think Ron would keep him but he was Martin's pick. He's done well by the team 2010-12 but these last two years have not shown much although the car is the bulk of the problem.

The standard rule in racing is that the car behind is responsible for not hitting the car in front. Unless the car in front is driving erratically or driving into the car behind on purpose. I don't understand how Perez could be at fault. It's interesting that Derek Daly was the stewart and Adrian Fernandez was in the same room as Daley.

McLaren has a 1 year deal offer to Button-it was announced last Saturday in Montreal. Ferrari spent enormous amounts of time and effort to have a faster car for Canada-they got .3 but apparently, so did everyone else. Friday practice Alonso was flying but was way off the pace Saturday Q3. Oh well, it won't be long before they do damage control and turn their attention to 2015.

Oh yeah? That's good news, then. I haven't seen any articles about it. Have a source?
You got it. I'd be okay if he retires after 2015.

Both Perez and Massa were approaching a LEFT turn corner.
The proper racing line would be that Perez would position his Force-India towards the outside edge (right side) of the corner before entering the corner, then turn into the apex.
Thus, Perez should have moved to the right side of the track to prepare for the left corner. But instead he moved to the left side of the track to block Massa.
Massa was the victim of this incident because no professional F1 driver would have expected the driver in front to steer in the opposite direction instead of using the proper racing line.

The Mercedes Formula: What has powered the Silver Arrows’ success in 2014?

Interesting note on the fuel sources between McLaren and MB affecting performance. Although I thought the F1 reg's were so tight on fuel it's hard to gain an advantage.

Plans are afoot for an 'Infiniti' engine in formula one.
It is already known that reigning world champions Red Bull will compile a 'final report' about current supplier Renault's progress since its disastrous pre-season after this weekend's Austrian grand prix.
"Then we will decide if there is still potential development in the existing engine, or whether we need to consider a new development in order to reach Mercedes' standard," team owner Dietrich Mateschitz said this week.
Renault, whose other F1 customers are Toro Rosso, Lotus and Caterham, have reason to be worried.
"We know that Red Bull makes high demands of us," said the French marque's engine boss Rob White, "but I am sure that we can meet them."
Switching to the V6s produced by rivals Mercedes or Ferrari can be ruled out, Honda is not ready to consider servicing customers, and Red Bull's links to Volkswagen are considered wide of the mark.
Another rumour is that the team could build a bespoke 'Red Bull' turbo engine.
"Nothing is impossible," Dr Helmut Marko coyly told Germany's Auto Motor und Sport.
Correspondent Michael Schmidt even has some details of the potential plan.
He said Red Bull already plays a major role in the production of the power unit batteries. And the 'Renault' turbocharger is actually derived from APC Pankl, an Austrian technology collaboration.
The internal combustion engine and motors would be built at AVL, an Austrian company located not far from the scene of this weekend's Austrian grand prix at the Red Bull Ring.
AVL, the world's largest independent powertrain development company, hit the headlines recently when reports of a secret 'rolling road' pre-season test with a Red Bull-owned Toro Rosso took place at its impressive Graz facility.
Schmidt continued: "Infiniti would contribute a portion of the budget and may contribute knowledge about electric motors from the parent company Nissan.
"It is planned that the engine will also be called Infiniti."

"A final thought. Toto Wolff runs and owns shares in Mercedes Grand Prix. He owns shares in Williams and he manages Valtteri Bottas.
Not since the 1961 Belgian Grand Prix, when Ferraris finished one-two-three-four, has one man partly owned the first four cars across the line in a grand prix."
CORRECTION: Wolff still has a 10% share as he only sold 5% of his 15% to an American healthcare tycoon.

DC needs to re-check this as Wolff sold his Williams stake before the race:

I think Williams lost the race only on strategy. They've been off the front for so long that they forgot how to manage the strategy from up front.

I'm not so sure Williams had the race pace to beat MBZ.

I believe Williams was faster in a straight line than the Mercedes, so they should have been able to keep Mercedes behind them if they didn't lose the lead during the pitstops.

From what I could catch when they were showing telemetry, looked like the Williams had about a 7kph advantage on the long straights.

that may be so but if Williams had a faster car down the straights, it had a slower car out of corners 1,2, & 3 and by then, the MBZ's were out of touch (except when Bottas re-passed Lewis)
