I changed the power steering pump on my 2005 base RSX with a remanufactured ebay purchase, and it's still squealing. Not as bad, but still squealing. If I spray lube into the front bearing of the pump it stops completely for a minute or so. The old pump did the same thing if I sprayed lube into the front bearing - so I thought it was the pump. I don't see any bubbling in the reservoir. I saw some of the posts on leaks in the lines and possibly in the rack, but if the noise stops when I spray lube into the bearing behind the pulley when it's running - do I have a bad remanufactured pump?

 

have you tried checking the tension on the belt too? if unit is refurbed and also squealing until you lubricate the bearings inside the pulley, maybe the belt is too tight...

 

I didn't realize the tension could be adjusted...the spring on the tensioner pulley just needed to be released to remove the belt and pump...how is it adjusted?

 

i'm not familiar with RSXs... i just threw it out there as something to check... so it is an autotensioner... is the belt new correctly sized?

if you spin the bearing with the car and belt off, does it make any noise?

 

The bearing did not make any noise when I spun the shaft out of the box.
