Its bothered me since getting my 16 ILX that there is no light in the cubby box behind the shifter, so after finding nothing online i decided to take this opportunity to do a DIY for anyone else out there looking to do something like this.
I want to mention that for this i wanted personally to be as non-invasive as possible in that i didnt want to take anything apart etc. that would be a major undertaking or potentially break anything and anyone could do themselves.
First thing is you will want to get yourself one of these pre wired led's with a lead, it also has an adhesive backing so it will stick almost anywhere. No Drilling, easy. Super Bright Led's Little Dot LED
First, place your hand as so and pop up just this corner to loosen this panel.
Take out the pad on bottom of the cubby to reveal the hole in the back of the bin. Start feeding the wire through the hole and try your best to point the wire towards the panel you just popped loose.
With any luck the wire will start coming out as shown here. if not run your hand along the bottom of this panel and you should be able to fish it out. if not simply start over and try again.
Now I'm sure there are many ways to ground this light but i just happened to have an extra Wire probe left over from my radar detector install to simply tap this harness on the amplifier , its the large black wire as shown. Sorry it is a bit har to see here but it is the very first wire on the larger harness shown.
finally, you just need some power from a source that, as i preferred, was on whenever the engine was on. so I tapped the "Meter" fuse as you can see here.
Thanks to the natural shape and rigidity of the wire assembly it stays nicely to the top of the cubby and now you have a light for it that will come on whenever you are in ACC or the engine is running.
Hope this helps folks out there looking for a similar solution to the baffling reason behind there being no light in the cubby. Now if I could just swap out the overhead moonroof control unit from another Acura with a sunglasses holder i would be so happy LOL. Happy Modding!
