Unhappy 2016 base ilx

My new base ilx sound system is terrible. 6 speakers, 2 of them are tweeters. Im thinking I should of paid for the premium. Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Oh wow. So for the 2016 ILX you have a different system from base to premium?
Interesting.

For the 2013-15 I believe the stereo didnt get an upgrade until you got up to the tech models.

My tech has 10 speaker ELS surround. It still lacks a lot of power through. I unplugged my ANC which seemed to have turned the system up to its full potential. I however have no idea if the 2016 ANC can be turned off in the same matter. Once I turned mine off the mirrors started vibrating to the louder bass tones.

Can you just upgrade your speakers to aftermarket? Focal, Hertz, or budget Polk?

Question

Thanks, im not looking to have a crazy custom system Id probably be happy if it was equal to the premium. Right now there are no speakers in the back deck. looks like id have to cut the metal to install speakers there ,also where would I splice them in?

I have a 12" kenwood subwoofer and kicker amplifier in my '16 Premium ILX. I did not touch the stock speakers, they sound good enough.

I brought it to my local car audio shop to get installed. It was easily connected to the existing subwoofer, or something simple like that. No need to go through any firewalls or no drilling into the frame at all.

I have a hatch back box the 12" subwoofer is mounted too, because i wanted more space in my trunk. It looks great and low-profile but still sounds amazing.

We were worried about the ANC, but it did not affect anything. So there is no need to unplug or disconnect or cut anything regarding the ANC.

I will post pictures soon.

So you added a 12" sub using the power that is going to your stock sub? Wouldnt that just take power away from the stock sub?
Id love to see some pics

Not Exactly

As i mentioned, a local car audio shop installed it for me since im not a car audio specialist but.... i believe they disconnected the wire connected to stock sub, connected it to amplifier, and ran connection from amp to aftermarket sub.

Therefore, power is generated through the amplifier.

Something like that... im no car audio professional but the bass/sound quality is SO MUCH better in my opinion.

Yeah ... i know kenwood logo is upside down. It used to be standing up for more space in my trunk. but i decided that laying it down was what i wanted afterwards, still a lot of space in trunk. I can still easily stand it up or move it around if i wanted too.

ANC can be disabled in software now...

Its part of the debug menu.

I have the Premium, and i feel it lacks the thump it should have (yet when i did the diagnostic sound test, the sub can rumble pretty loud if it wanted to...)

I did like how the ELS system in my TLX loaner car sounded though.

You can try downloading an app like BBE SonicMax Pro on your iPhone to improve the response of the speakers. Its not just a simple EQ, but uses funky DSP tricks to expand the sound field, highlight mid range and base thump, etc.

I have heard if you use the diagnostic menu the change will reverse to an active ANC once the system is turned off and back on. Not sure if the 2016 now has a way to keep it off when the system is restarted but the 13-15 ILXs can NOT do that sadly.

I do agree without the ANC bass is much much more defined. I am very happy having unplugged my ANC and my microphones for voice rec still work perfect. We originally thought unplugging what we did would also deactivate the front mic. Seems it did not.

Il have to try it out myself tomorrow to see.

Seeing as how well my Bose noise canceling ear buds perform with their ANC on, I kinda hoped the feature on the ILX would actually improve the sound rather then limit sonic output. But I'll check for myself.

I just got my ILX premium and ordering the Focal speakers to replace the front and back set speakers. Will see what is the outcome and do I need to add amp for them.
