Vinyl Wrap & Tint

Bought her back in April...just joined the forum a month or so ago.
Time to get my feet wet with this car and start the modding

40% window, 15% moonroof, Gloss Black Roof

Very happy with the outcome!

It does. You should do a white roof... haha jk jk. Carbon fiber roof would look sick though if you dont mind cf wraps.

You could wrap it with real CF, then people couldnt hate per say. haha

Based on the price I got mine done. I think it was about $200-$300 for the roof itself.

That looks great. I'm definitely pulling the trigger on some real CF wrap for my roof in a couple week now! Thanks for the pics

Question for the OP - did you need to have the antenna blade housing removed beforehand, or did the shop work around it? Also, did they mention anything about needing to use special adhesive to get the wrap to stick to the plastic?

Both questions come following my discussion with a local shop, that was concerned about damaging the antenna blade. Thanks!

So how durable is a vinyl wrap like what you have on the roof?

Personally I would remove it. On the TSX it isn't too painful but I'm not sure about yours. You can probably still wrap it with it on and just carefully cut a hole for it and push the edges under it. It would be a lot more tricky with the chance of cutting it wrong and ruining that sheet of vinyl.

Thanks, I agree that it should be removed beforehand. Does anyone know whether the ILX shark fin/blade merely snaps on, or if it's held by screws and requires the headliner to be dropped to access it?

It is actually held in with one bolt, iirc. The place that did my car said it's not glued down like most cars. Also the cover of the antenna comes off the antenna assembly since it's only held on by a couple screws. My installer wrapped the antenna and tucked it inside the cover then screwed the antenna assembly in to hold it in.

Thanks for the information! Do you know how your installer was able to get to those screws?

I actually had to recently go back and get the antenna "touched up". The first time they tried wrapping it with one continuous sheet. After 1-2 weeks this resulted in some wrinkles. I then went back and they did a cut, and wrapped the antenna separately. Looks much cleaner this way

I don't quite remember exactly how it was taken apart. I remember though that they took off the two "C-Pillar" covers in the rear and the 3rd brake light cover to get access to the nut and cables for the antenna. When they remove the antenna from the car then you can see the screws to remove the cover from the actual antenna assembly.

That sounds very much like the headliner needs to be dropped to access things, and the shop I'm talking with is adamant that the fin needs to be removed before they apply the wrap. (And that they would prefer I handle the removal.)

Between that and the potential for wrinkles, etc., I'm leaning away from having this done.

You may have to drop the headliner a bit in the rear but I know for sure that they didn't remove it completely.

Yeah same here. I asked about vinyl carbon roof wrap, wanted me to remove my roof fin as well. Then I also realized that also means my moonroof visor gets removed too.... nah, too much work and then rework for me. Maybe I should have done it before the moonroof visor.

True, but any time you have to remove trim, interior panels, etc. that introduces the risk of breaking or bending something, or causing rattles. I'm pretty risk adverse. And while I like how the wrap looks, I don't love it enough to mess with the interior or the antenna.
