Show us your wear and tear!

Hey everyone,

I have owned my ILX for about 2 years now and have nee thinking recently about the amount of wear the car has seen. So lets share the amount of wear our cars have seen and any stories that may be behind them.

This is the first car I have taken ownership of that has never had a previous owner so it feels good to know the wear and tear (at least inside) is my own... and pretty minimal for daily driving the car everyday for 2 years.

If I remember correctly I have done three oil changes since I took ownership and I am a few miles away from the fourth. Just waiting for the computer to go from "service soon" to "service now". Should be any day now.

First issue I ever had was a rock chip within the first few months of ownership. This one bugs me as it has been over a year since and not one similar chip so this one must have been a freak accident.

Received this one while driving in Stuido City.

Long story short I hit a steel cable that was supporting a telephone pole. Steel cable was at most a half of an inch thick and running at maybe a 45 degree angle from the ground. I didnt even notice the damn thing while trying to clear the incline leaving the 7 11 parking lot.
Sad day but it is barely visible. Side skirts in the future will cover it well.

This one is my own fault and I feel like an idiot for it. My brother came to visit then I had to leave in a hurry while he was walking the dogs to the park. I tried to back out of my garage and get around his car and didnt realize how close the tool bench in our garage was.

It was just me being an idiot in a hurry. Chrome still looks good though! Eat your heart out aomech.

This was brought up by another member so I figured id share that he isnt the only one.

Maybe once every 2 months I will have to push that tweeter back in. So that is like after 200 times opening the door and closing it.

Lastly, the only one that bothers me daily...

These damn scratches/runs in the leather wheel. I had gone over a year without seeing this ever. Then one day there was a big scratch on the bottom left of my wheel. Since then I have seen more and more added and I have no idea what is causing it.

The scratches only form on the bottom left of the wheel. You can see the wheel has 3 leather sections. Top, left, and right. The top and right pieces are still flawless while the left looked like that.

Anyways. Share your wear and tear so I dont feel like my ILX is the only one with a few small minor chips in it's perfection.

Hey Jon, funny how we have the same scratches on the steering wheel. One day I found about 2inch scratch and had no idea where it came from, then one time i was wearing this denim jacket with side button for pocket, while I was getting off the car I felt I scratched on something, in my search I found another scratch overlapped on the existing one. smh.

I bet you got yours the same way I got mine. lol

Or rings. But you probably thought of that. Easy fix, $20 buck cover steering wheel cover... BUT - its the principle, haha. ill post pics as soon as camera feels like working... only ones that really bug me are 1 ding (out of 2) and a pretty decent scrape on the left front lip. Front end has plenty of small imperfections. Once its past a certain point, ill just get it wrapped. I should have gotten clear bra. I'm sorry ILX... I let you down...

Oh man, I should fill this post with pics. Haha.

123,000 miles. I got it with 16. It's been through a lot.

20 oil changes
3rd set of tires
2nd battery
  • Same steering wheel wear
  • Same tweeter falls off
  • Leather seat is looking 'stretched out' on the butt portion
  • Radio buttons and cruise control buttons don't have "matte" finish anymore. Worn smooth.
  • I-L-X letters are falling out of my all-weather mats when I vacuum
  • The console is scratched from the USB connector
  • Multiple scuffs on the front door panels from getting in & out. Hard plastic very susceptible to scratches
  • 1 wheel has curb rash
  • Two repaired rock chips on the windshield
  • Front right marker light burned out and haven't replaced yet
  • Front grille has some fairly large chips
  • Rock chips on the headlights now (rest of front end has clear bra)
  • Scuff on front right bumper lip
  • Scratches on rear bumper and slight bend due to parking lot hit & run
  • Right rear window is no longer OEM (no "A" emblem) - vandalism last weekend

Still cleans up nicely though.

Rough math simple math, you're changing oil every 6000 miles (maybe even sooner), even though we can go as far as 7,500. Looks like this car is gonna go the long haul. What oil do you use and do you change it at as soon as possible after it hits 15%. I only let it it hit 10% once. Peace of mind.

* Also... hmm... good thread.... maybe the steering wheel leather is an ILX issue? Pretty sure the tweeter is, as I have ALWAYS had the issue on passenger side.

And driver side ILX letters also starting to come off on carpet from shifting. looks like this is gonna be a common issues thread too.

Actually for the first 50,000 miles I was doing oil changes every 5,000 even though it was WAY early on the 0W20 oil. Finally my service advisor talked me into actually following the Maintenance Minder. Now I schedule maintenance when it gets to 15% oil life remaining. My last change I went 9,015 miles. I do mostly highway driving as you can imagine. Will probably do plugs soon.

WHOA! Yeah, long life ahead of it. I go through oil faster because more city driving and aggressive fun driving on the open highway. Another reason I don't let it dip under 15%. Don't really know how many oil changes off the top of my head (now I'm gonna check my records tho)... but I'm at 41,000 miles and probably changed it... 7 times?... Also SUMMER kills the oil life out here in California. VERY HOT, and LOTS of bad traffic. I'm at 80% right now, but I bet by, hmmm....June-July, ill need another one. Then probably again by....September-October, and then it'll last longer.

Let's not all forget the wear & tear on those key fobs.

Mine looked like crap within the first 6 months.

My key fob is wrapped in leather.

Glad to see my wear areas are the same as others.
