Nex Gen ILX News or Spy Shots?
Just wondering if there’s been any news or spy shots of the next gen ILX. I driven around the current gen Civic and really like it so I figure an ILX based on it would be very nice. I assume it would get the 205 HP engine from the Civic Si. Because I’m currently leasing a RDX it works out cheaper for me to lease an ILX than a Civic.

The ilx is selling pretty well right now, so I don’t see Acura in a rush to update it when they just updated it for the 2019MY.

TLX and MDX are first in line to get redesigned with the new look and interior, similar to RDX. I would guess with the major MMC of the ILX, it's redesign won't be for another few years.

Acura will probably just add the precision cockpit and update the styling to the ILX for the MMC around 2022.

The ILX has already had 2 MMCs, which is already unprecedented. I'd be really surprised to hear of a third MMC. The interior is what needs a major redesign. I would say the exterior can survive as-is for another few years as it looks fresh and modern.

I had an ILX recently as a loaner and completely agree. The interior just feels cheap, stale and needs more sound deadening. The features are ok for the price, no dispute there.

Are they considering the +19 ILX a MMC or 2nd Gen model? I'm not that familiar with the ILX; but, the 13-15 ILX models look like a very short run 1st Gen, 16-18 ILX look like a 2nd Gen, and the +19 ILX looks like a MMC to the 16-18 models?

They're all 1st gen as there have been no changes made to the platform. They all ride on the same 9th generation Civic platform.

The 19+ models are the second MMC, which I had never heard Honda/Acura doing in the past but it's probably a band-aid until the 2nd gen comes out.

Yeah, the current ILX is the same car that was released in 2012. Acura has freshened it up a few times but it's still on the same 9th gen Honda Civic platform. I had a 9th gen Civic and the current 10th gen is light years ahead of it. An ILX based on the 10th gen Civic would be a really nice car.

Before I bought my 16 ILX, I had considered a Civic Touring. Besides the newer infotainment, the ILX is a significantly nicer car. It's also significantly faster, with the 201hp + DCT. Unfortunately I didn't get the Civic at the time because it had just come out so all the Honda dealers would not budge off MSRP. I don't pay MSRP, so I walked. The ILX was only $2k more expensive than what Honda wanted.

I'd love to downgrade from my TLX to ILX but I'm not even thinking about it until there's been a full blown redesign inside and out. I'm sorry but this current version does not excite me. It's old and boring. Just my opinion.

Similar situation here, except I have a 2010 TSX. I hoped we'd see an A3-killing ILX on the 10th gen Civic platform, maybe with the Accord's 2.0T and SH-AWD, but apparently not. At this point, if they want to keep the ILX, they may as well wait until the 11th gen Civic, which is probably just one or two years away.

I recently discovered that, despite its long appearance (to me), the Kia Stinger is actually shorter than the Accord and Mazda 6. If the TLX is too big and/or expensive, I'd be happy to go with the Stinger. The rear-biased AWD system is great.

Yeah, same here. I'd prefer to go smaller than my TSX, but nothing smaller ticks all the right boxes for me. Closest is the Civic Si, but it's a step down for comfort/luxury and isn't that much smaller anyway. Plus my wife and left knee are starting to balk at another stick-shift. So, unless the 2G TLX is huge, which it probably is, I'll consider it. I would like to stay with Honda/Acura.

I looked to lease a 2013 ILX Premium in 2012 but passed since the base engine was pathetic. Leased a 2016 ILX Premium and the 8 speed DCT and K24 was a marvel but the car was hampered by a piss poor infotainment system which Acura neglected to ever update the AcuraLink system with iOS and the cheap interior materials. We recently bought a 2020 ILX Premium A-SPEC and the car is essentially the same fun to drive car but Acura has provided Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support finally and exterior aesthetically is a huge upgrade and A-SPEC package elevates the interior every so slightly but like people have said the car could use more sound dampening, softer touch plastic, and offer some higher end features like heated steering wheel, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, rain sensing wipers, panoramic moon roof, some form of AWD, S-Type, Precision cockpit. I will say Acura has cut the price of the car pretty substantially since basically the same car more or less has been around since the 2013 model thus productions and parts much be much cheaper, so starting at $26K even for the base is kind of a great deal, just know this car can and should be much more. For me the current gen isn't really a Mercedes A Class or BMW 2 Series competitor but more so a really great alternative to a Honda Civic if you don't want to gamble on the 1.5 Turbo, hate the CVT, or find the manual to be oddly underwhelming for Honda standards, yet want premium exterior styling at least and a premium dealer experience over Honda

Spy shots of the next-generation Civic Type-R have appeared, so perhaps an ILX on the upcoming 11th generation Civic platform is in the works. Honda already has hardware that could work in an ILX, like the 1.5T and 2.0T engines, 10AT and 8DCT transmissions, SH-AWD, adaptive dampers from the Civic Si and Type-R, and even hybrid systems. We all know the ILX doesn't have massive volume, but the ILX-specific development costs should be relatively low considering it would use the Civic platform and other off-the-shelf components. Now that Acura has dropped the RLX, I bet they'll release a new ILX so the TLX isn't the only sedan in the lineup.

The specs of the new TLX make me more optimistic we'll see a new ILX on the upcoming 11th gen Civic platform. As I feared, the TLX is huge at 194.6" long and about 75" wide. It's sized like the 5 Series and Cadillac CT5, and with the RLX gone, represents Acura's plus-sized sedan. This means that, unless Acura wants to abandon the 3 Series/CT4 segment entirely, it will need another ILX. Indeed, TOV has info suggesting that the car C&D reported was a next-gen CTR might in fact be a camouflaged next-gen ILX: https://www.vtec.net/news/news-item?...ad_style=fancy
This would be consistent with Honda's earlier statement that the Civic Type R line would expand with a "GT" type model. Something like that would be cool as an ILX.

Over in the new 2G TLX forum, there's a thread about an Acura webcast to its dealers, and screenshots of the presentation show an upcoming compact sedan. So it looks like we're getting a new ILX:

Acura is suppose to be launching a new sedan compact in 2021 for the 21MY or 22MY, but no one is sure what the car is called since they aren’t calling it the ILX. People have been speculating that the recent spy shots of the new civic is actually the ILX, which will be a sport back like the a5 and that the RSX name might make a return.

I am curious about the upcoming ILX myself. With TLX only growing on the outside and retaining civic-sized interior (not a fan of that approach), I wonder what that means for the new ILX? Are we going to end up with two cars with similar interiors that are 10+ inches apart on the outside? If Acura manages to use the same base 2.0T engine in ILX but keeps the weight lower by 500 lbs than TLX, the new ILX could be fun to drive car (even if Acura compromises suspension here and there).

Im guessing we will see spy photos sometime this year, more then likely this Summer, then we would see the reveal sometime at the end of the year or in early 2022. We all know it’s getting a Type-S variant with probably SH-AWD. Supposedly it’ll be running on the Civic Hatchback chassis as that chassis is the more sporty out of the two. I’m excited for this model though as I am looking to switch to the Acura brand.
