Cool My not so slammed ILX build

Im horrible at intros, but heres a little info just for some of you guys that don't know me, My name is Aaron/Chino (IG:@aaarontheasian). Located in sunny southern California and I drive a 2013 Acura ILX w/ 2.4L 6MT... Obviously. Shes been in my hands since Sep23rd of 2012. Been around cars since I was a baby, so i've had my fair share of Civics & Integras. My main goal was just to daily drive this ILX to keep my track integra off the streets but plans changed and some thieves stole her. So.... a year passed by and I slowly started buying parts for my ILX till I said "fck it, im just gunna build it"...

Before i took her home. Didnt get much pictures because the transmission blew within 12 hours of ownership. She went MIA for two weeks

By the time i got her back, I had some wheels waiting for her. But after a while it bugged me that I still had her at stock height... awkward

Also got a free R&D intake from INJEN, which is perfect by the way. You can really feel the difference and i recommend it.

Went back to stock for a few months but i copped some yellow foglight and DRL bulbs.

Then finally after being so indecisive about the cheap crap coilover options we had, i decided to go with D2 36way adjustable coils because i liked purple.

P.S. I did the DIY coilover guide.

Pretty much kept it like that till Jan 2nd 2014. While I was visiting my mom in northern California for the holidays, I had stumbled across a used set of SSR TypeF's in Merced. I called the guy and told him id pick them up the weekend I drove up state. Luckily he still had them and so I asked if I could test fit them, he said sure! So right when i lowered the jack.... the car sat on top of the tire. 20mins later I impulsively bought them. Put new tires on within the same week and drove back to Socal rubbing the crap out of the sidewalls.

Thanks for sharing the history, and I'm excited to see where you go with this one. I regret not asking you to fire it up when I saw you a couple of weeks ago at the 742 show. Gotta hear that exhaust, so we need to meet up again soon.

Keep the pics coming.

Finally I can go to one location for these shots verse rummaging through instagram. Haha

Can't wait to see what you've got in store for eibach.

Question. .. what is the rear piping set up?
Do you still have the muffler on the axleback?
Does the split for the driver side piping attach after the axle and before or after the muffler?

Hahaha well i finally quit procrastinating and decided to make a thread.

i cant either, i doubt ill get everything in on time but I wont attend empty handed.

1) quad exhaust muffler deleted
2) no muffler
3) we fabricated a custom y-pipe to split right after the axleback.

Aaaaah okay you deleted the entire muffler.
I thought you had kept it but routed the Y split before the muffler making one set muffled one not. That would have sounded crazy hahaha. Two different tones from the same car.

I remember the video of how it sounded. It was great from what I remember but didnt realize you had no muffler.... its not too annoying without the muffler?
We've got one resonator in the middle or was the muffler it?

And now that you have this thread I finally put two and two together that you were the one with the gold rpf1s so long back.
What specs were those again?
Makes sense now when your buddy asked if you were going to sport enkeis and you responded way better. I thought you were just hating on enkei.

His "crew" kingsmen is sponsored by 742 marketing, so they're making the connections for him. I've been on a grassroots campaign to get free stuff, trust me thats harder. Although I will say taking decent pics of your car and posting them everywhere helps "them" pick your car for parts testing/sponsorship. They want free exposure if they can get it.

Car sounds AMAZING, especially for just a muffler delete. Sounds way better than my car and louder at that. In cabin noise I beat him at that lol

haha nope, i just got rid of the muffler. Ill be picking up a skunk2 alpha header soon.

as for the sound, I LOVE IT. sounds cleaner than most v6's i hear around here. I dont know about other people, but i personally like loud cars... due to my past.

and yes that was me lol. 17x9 +45 offset. nah, I just didnt want to rock the same wheels i had previously.

Thanks bro, and yeah i guess it helps that i attend and show my car at car shows. Ive met great people through these shows. Recently i just picked up JDM mafia motorsports and AxionIndustries as sponsors.

Well first and foremost I DID assume your "sponsor" was hooking you up. Wow pretty whack sponsor if they didn't actually do anything for you. I can see you mistakenly took my comment as hating, not the case at all. Actually if you reread it, I was trying to say that you take decent pics, and that I assumed that helped you get "sponsored". As far as posting them everywhere, I meant that (again) as a good thing. I mean if people don't want to look at your car, then they can look at anything else. I think you were being oversensitive man. As far as not knowing you and all that, you're taking it to personal man. I don't have beef with you. The part about me having a harder time getting parts was (again) me assuming your sponsor made it easy vs. personally chasing parts down.

Ignorant assumptions are a pet peeve of mine I guess, I find it really annoying for some reason. Anyways yeah, out of all the times I tried to contact him on something, he's only responded once. He's actually been lagging on the whole team, a few of them have been trying to get parts for a couple months now. He's a cool dude? But I guess he's always busy. As far as "chasing parts down", just gotta know the right people. As far as sponsorships, Im working with jdm mafia motorsports, trying to work something out with axion industries, and I believe my team gets discounts at pro1.

Also AeroFlowDynamics is willing to do a group buy for you guys that want side skirt extensions and/or splitters. With or without the fins.

Honestly I don't see how I made an ignorant assumption. 742 Marketing "supposedly" does hook up their sponsored cars up with parts, and sponsors, discounts, and coverage and etc. Really it would have been ignorant for me to assume the opposite. I think if anything the reason you guys didn't get many parts or support is cause you guys were low priority to them. I think they give higher priority to shop cars, those tend to get built to the limit, so more coverage for them. Axion huh? Going for just the RBC or the full e85 swap too?

Love how you guys are making these connections.
I was never one for going to meets. Probably because the past smaller shut I've been to always get run out by the cops due to add holes burning out all day as well as idiots slipping gps enabled cell phones in your whip to see where you store her at night.
After hearing that I say no no to meets
People stealing parts while your parked a block away. Fuck that.
Because of these I never meet or know any sponsors and have always just thrown my own monet at the car slowly... very slowly.

Maybe I need to get to more meets so this can change.
Until then I'll remain a private build a guess

Isn't there a cars and coffee meet somewhere in town? It happens all over the US. Usually the safest bet since the the nicest cars and decent people show up. There should be a facebook page for one in a built up area close by.

Lol you have to pick and choose the meets you attend. Obviously now that there are low life thieves at every corner, it doesn't make it worth it to attend. And also i was talking about car shows, like Eibach's 10th anniversary.

I went cars and coffee a few times its pretty awesome. its actually a MUCH older crowd compared to your average meet. It's older professionals and guys that made it already, so they show up with AMAZING rides. Most of the younger crowd is there to walk around and gawk at the awesomeness. The older guys are usually just standing by their cars sipping some coffee and talk about their car. I've seen celebrities there too. You'll see bugattis, ferraris, and lambos, plenty of porches , old school stuff and everything in between. Usually there are coffee and donut vendors too. they have a webpage.

Ah, that sucks. It's every saturday here and getting up is hard but given my usual work schedule I've gotten used to it. It's the only even I go to since the last one I checked out had a bunch of gangs and ratty pieces of crap that showed up.

Its the only even where I know that my shit isn't fancy enough to give a crap about!

Nevermind, I guess it's every Saturday in Irvine Ca. Lol tell me about it, I started having to get to work at 7:45 and I registered for an 8am class also. I'm not a morning person... At all.

Haha but I guess exotics, hit rods, and all attend this one ! Here's some more info. One of these days I'll have to check it out.

Nobody cares about money there unless you do. Its just a nice place with decent people who won't steal shit off your ride or screw with the cops. We've had cops come by a bunch of times but its mostly older with nice groups of people who show up.

hahaha I know I made it sound like that when I said rich. I meant much more than the money they have. This is going to sound overly judgmental but my buddies dad goes to all the Cars and Coffee meets to show off his oldschool Cobra. He is a hard core conservative and constantly spouts about his Cobra being the best thing on wheels. Used to put me down for owning a FWD import than began giving his youngest son crap for picking up an AWD VW R32 which makes me think he simply likes what he owns and thats that.

I may be wrong to assume it's that "type" that attends these meets locally to me but he loves them and gets along with the people their so I can't imagine I would have much to say minus "You're car is shiny!" hahaha or "How much did you pay to get that carbon fiber trim?... Yeah when I go to car meets/shows, unless I have specific questions, I just tell people "nice car" or whatever (at first). Just cuz you have a nice car doesn't mean you are a cool person to talk to. Some of the people are super friendly and talkative, others are exactly like what Jon described. Mostly I just appreciate the cool cars, I'm pretty friendly tho, so ill kind of see how people interact and the friendlier people I may talk with for a minute. I dropped off my car today for a cold air intake test fit. I personally contacted the company, but also met one their reps at a meet, and then kept running into him, I think that helped me get pushed up the list.

There are definitely cool people at meets but you have to go to a meet that actually interests you or you just wont click with anyone there.

Cars and Coffee is great if you just want a meet with nice ass cars.
There is no way around it, Im being overly judgmental about a group of people I have not met.

But I feel I am right to assume this group of older men are pretty conservative in their way of thinking and I probably wouldn't get along with many of them if the conversation ventured anywhere besides their sweet car.

Not necessarily judgmental. After going to a few meets I've noticed the some of the Honda guys tend to be somewhat ricey and mustang guys are unnecessarily standoffish. My TL and another Teggy are the only 2 Acura's that show up regularly. Most people there just want to see nice cars. There's always gonna be some douche who shows once and never returns. I just like meeting chill people who like talking about cars. Its fun but I guess it depends on where it's at. SLC is pretty chill. Not sure about the other meets.
