Knocking/Popping after H&R Spring install
Knocking/Popping after H&R Spring install
Hey guys,
Installed the H&R lowering springs the other week. Car looks amazing, however I noticed that when doing hard turns (left and right) there is a pop or a know that happens when traveling at low speeds. Not sure what is causing this.. has any one experienced this and is there any guidance for what to fix?

Sounds like what happened to me. I figure this is mcberl.
We only checked on two things and it was one of the two.
Make sure the CV Boot is in its proper position. There should be a mark of paint on the boot and the axle to show how far up the boot sits. Make sure that isn't twisted or caught up on the axle.
Also make sure the axle itself is properly seated. I don't have knowledge on what it feels like when the axle pops in or out, my buddy did, but he seems to think it was the CV Boot, not the axle. Good luck!!

Haha good guess. I took a look at that cv boot. Both sides are in proper position. The sound is resonating closer to the top the spring inside the wheel well (passenger side mostly), up in the upper mount. Now that I have the wheels off and lifted it almost sounds like a a ting...
Sounds like when they put the spring on they didn't make sure that it was seated correctly up against the spring seat. When you turn the wheel the weight of the car shifts onto one spring more than the other and the spring slips in the seat slightly making a "ting" or "dong" style noise.

This is a big picture but it shows what I am talking about...

If you look at the very bottom coil of the spring, you will notice the bottom mount has a notch in it that holds the spring tight. If the spring is not seated all the way up against that "wall" or "seat" when the spring uncompresses it has wiggle room and makes noise
.
It could however be other things, but that would be my guess if you have no other symptoms.

just got back from picking up the car from the shop that installed the springs. According to them the shock is what is causing the noise and not the spring. They indicated that the seal inside the shock is binding every time the wheel turns left or right... His suggestion was to replace the shock with either factory or an after market. He said that he couldn't get the part from the dealer here in town because they didn't have any in.
I'm thinking that going aftermarket would be the way to go at this point.. Does anyone have any suggestions for after market shocks? or alternate ideas?

dang, your car is not even a year old, how come they blame the suspension causing the noise? They made a bad install and they blame your suspension instead.
JHP is a good source.
Weksos.
If I remember correctly eibach sells koni struts.
And a quick search showed tire rack has a 20% sale on konis right now... same for the link chinoxii posted (not sure on redshifts sale price)
You can get it from here:
