Ilx 2.4L Mod
Ilx 2.4L Mod
Hey guys! I would like to thank this forum for steering me in the right direction for buying my ILX. After my SI received a fatal case of tree poisoning (thanks Sandy!), it was time to get a new car. I did my research, and after being very disappointed with the '12 Si, I took a 2.4L ILX out for a spin, and I fell in love. I am very happy with my new car, but like others on the forum, there are somethings that Acura could/should have done better. I am not impressed with the speakers, and I am also not impressed with the 5 inch screen that is lacking Nav. I am wondering how difficult would it be to replace the display/head unit with the one from the tech package? I know that I can do something about the speakers.
Thanks!
Thanks!
It's not worth it. You'd have to buy a new screen and accompanying dash pieces as well as a new head unit and amplifiers. You're better off using your phones gps with turn by turn navigation. Google Maps works fabulously.
Yep, I've done the same with my phone. It works well enough for me.
I just use a Garmin when I need the navi which isn't too often. The radio is okay for me even though it doesn't come close to the system in my ZDX but you get what you pay for I guess.
Car manufacturers charging so much for the nav option are not really in keeping with todays tech pricing. Sure I can see a premuim for being built in, but the option really isn't worth more than $1,000 on a new car. Ford does it this way, paying less than $1,000 to add the GPS "feature" to the screen.
I do like the built in look and integration, but it is getting hard to justify the cost.

The only issue I have with the navigation is that I wish the safety feature could somehow be disabled. It's ridiculous to try to use the voice command feature to get an address in. Maybe it's just my southern drawl.
I know I reviving this thread from the dead but did anyone ever attempt to retrofit nav on a 2.4 manual? Anyone have a list of parts needed? Would consider buying a Canadian dynamic with nav but apparently doesn't have tpms and thus not legal to import
