Anyone know what type of i-VTEC I have? 2013 ILX...

Anyone know what type of i-VTEC I have? 2013 ILX 2.4L 144 cubic inches DOHC i-VTEC Premium (MT6). I understand that there are many types? K20A2 or K20A3? Which one do I have? Which one is the TRUE i-VTEC? When would I feel it engage?

You are horribly confused. Read up on the internet about what VTEC and i-VTEC is and what the difference is (hint: minimal). Then simply look up ILX engine codes, which represent each generation of engine.

I'm a newbie I know. Saw a YouTube video and will continue to keep studying on my machine's specs!

Thank you for the info! I will study it. How did you know/find that by the way? I spent a long while crawling the internet for that spec.

Compared to those older style K20 VTEC mechanisms, you actually have a 3rd kind.

K20A2's had high lift cam lobes on both the intake and exhaust side. You would get the traditional B-Series VTEC "pop" sound and feel, with the added fuel economy benefits and efficiency tuning of a variable cam phasing intake cam gear.
K20A3's do not have a high lift cam on either the intake or exhaust side. There is no VTEC pop, and simply a cam phasing gear on the intake side for again, fuel economy and efficiency tuning.

The cams found in both the older 2.4 ILX as well as the current earth dream versions are different still.
You do have a high lift profile on the intake side, but the exhaust side is only a single cam lobe per valve set. The exhaust cams are fixed with one profile and timing. However the intake side does have 3 lobes per cylinder (2 for conventional efficiency swirl and low RPM torque, and a high lift VTEC lobe) as well as cam phasing.

---

to add even more confusion, the turbo engines feature other variations, such as dual cam phasing on intake and exhaust with no VTEC lobes on the 1.5's, or in the case of the 2.0T's a VTEC lobe that engages at low RPM to help turbo spool that then switches to traditional lobes for higher rpm driving.

Whoa! That was totally awesome! Thanks! I'm going to try to study up on everything you mentioned so that I can really know and care for my ride. Again, thanks.

Just read through the owner's manual. It'll tell you everything you need to know.
