20 MM spacers installed! FLUSH TREATMENT

Hi all,

As promised, pics with 20mm garageline wheelspacers.

The car is lowered on HR sport springs with upgraded rear 2013 SI sway bar. The car really handles much nicer, especially with the wider track.

The rears can still go up to 25mm, but i decided to go conservative and do 20mm all around.

Just for info.

Spacers can be bought from Garageline.com - speak to jermaine.

I used a grinding tool on the brake disc hub to make sure the spacer fits flush to avoid vibration, and make sure you use a torque bar when tightening the lugs.

No rubbing issues even with someone in the backseat during hard turns.

i'm done with suspension mods for now. Next is a little bit of go fast parts..downpipe/intake and tune.

Looks great!

I'm interested in getting 13 SI RSB as well, did you just get the bar or did you have to buy anything else from the SI to install it?

I believe someone else posted earlier when I first picked mine up that the si sway bar from eibach was a direct bolt on. Id assume all companies for the 2012 si will fit the 2.4 and 2012 1.8 civic will fit 2.0 ilx.

And it does look great. To be my usual asshole self. I wouldnt call it flush while on just springs. Wheels simply arent close enough to the fender. And using the term 'conservative' is anything but flush. But again IT LOOKS GREAT. I will be going this route myself. Would have gone eibach or h&r myself but I like the logo on there... It's not engraved is it? That would be sick. haha

Also, Im sure its your sway bar that you feel improving your handling FAR MORE than your spacers are. At the speed at which you are taking corners in an ilx, spacers are more a cosmetic mod than anything... just like if I go over even say 8in wide wheels. At that point it just looks cool. We dont need it with the power we are putting down.

AGAIN LOOKS GREAT!!
Any shots of the spacers before install? Did they have bolts installed in them already for the lugs to screw onto or are you using the oe bolts still to hold the lug nuts?

usdmjon - no worries about being an asshole..lol. I just wanted to post pics for those curious or afraid to try spacers. The Garageline logo is painted on, not engraved.

As for the grinding, I was referring to using a steel brush bit for your drill and using it on around the hub centric and on the surface of the brake disc where the spacer would attach. In some areas, you will find some corrosion and can make the install uneven and cause vibration.

I will be removing the wheels in a week and re-torquing the lug nuts on the spacers to make sure they are secure.

Below is a pic of a side profile for anyone interested. You will also see that I painted the calipers with high temp silver paint as they were starting to look rusty/oxidized.

Did the spacers have bolts pressed into them for the lugs to screw onto or are you screwing the lug nuts onto the oe bolts still with those spacers?

USDMjon - The spacers are bolt-on, similar to ichiba v2's.

the spacers come with their own lugs and nuts.

Looks good man! Especially with the OEM kit... I myself just put on 20mm akata spacers in the front and 25mm in the back. Really didn't have time to post pics but I will!

This thread + a few other similar ones really made me scared about buying spacers a while back...

Yeah, I read those previous threads before buying, I am well aware of the potential issues. However, keep in mind there are many possibilities for error upon install. Below are some of the following:

1) Make sure the bolts are torqued properly 78-80lb/ft. Over tightening of lugs can affect its integrity. If you do not own a torque bar get it installed by someone that does or this mod is not for you.

2) Ensure that you get a hubcentric design to ensure proper alignment of the spacer. The one in the lexus IS thread does not appear to be hubcentric, there is not stepped lip in the center.

3) Ensure that the nuts you are using are properly sized to the bolts supplied in the spacer. If the nuts bottom out you will not be able to properly tighten the lugs and may cause it to snap.

4) Again, as mentioned, get a steel brush bit and grind down any corrosion/uneven surfaces prior to installation. Do not be lazy and do it right, do it once.

There are MANY people that run spacers on much MORE powerful cars ie. EVO's, supras, Mustangs etc, all without issues. Our cars have a fraction of that power and possibly not driven as hard.

Thank you,

ILXdriver

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought utilizing spacers caused the wheel bearings to fail prematurely? Something about moving the main load bearing weight outward farther (sorry but I don't know the technical term for it lol).

Again going of hearsay not first hand experience.

I can't answer your question, but I would think it would have the same effect on the main load bearing weight as, say, a +35 offset wheel would.

Do you have before and after type pics? I would like to see side by side and/or front to front type pics to compare the differences. Can tell it looks good, just want to see comparison.

Oh also what are you dropped/ lowered on? Most guys on the forum have stated H and R springs. I have my stock rims chromed, so I think your setup is the direction I want to take the car in. I have VIP interior and no drop / lowering yet… but hey - it's a process man! HAHA. So how is your handling/ clearing as well. I drive in San Diego / LA / Inland Empire areas and honestly - ROADS SUCK. I don't think getting slammed or "hella-flush" is gonna work for me (not really a fan anyway), but wheel gap is not my friend either.
