No, bought the refurb unit for $477, although those bitches charge a lot for shipping and handling. Came out to around $514 total.

The 888 is the big box retail version of the 2308.

Evidently Dakmart is recommended on avsforum and a good place to buy...

Dakmart is a Denon-authorized reseller of B-stock and refurbished items. So the warranty is honored through Denon.

What are the odds that after i buy a receiver then my subwoofer blows.

Ugh, anyways im too lazy to start a new thread but what do people think of the A3-300?
http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/pro...roducts_id=102

Like to keep it under $500. Or is it worth spending more for a sub. All i had now was JBL

For that price, you might consider this:

^ I saw that but they want $53 for shipping.

Guess im stuck paying that much for a sub unless i overpay and buy it locally.

Personally, I don't think you'll go wrong with any of them, so go for the cheapest one.

Ugh i really hope this is a user error on my part.

I cant seem to get ANY sound out of my Denon AVR-888.

Its hooked up through HDMI for video and audio. Only two sources hooked up is my PS3 and Comcast HD box.

Heres the kicker, if i change the Denon to play audio through the TV, then i get sound from the TV speakers. Once i change it to play through the AMP, then i get no sound at all. I even tried it with optical cable and still no sound at all.

Even when i try to Auto Setup, it says theres no speakers connected.

Someone please tell me my receiver isnt bad and that its a simple fix....

OK i get sound but only when i crank it up all the way as it goes (+18)

So confused, i even unhooked all the speakers and just left the center speaker connected. Same thing happens.

Is there a mute on here maybe that i cant notice being on?

Might sound stupid, but are you sure you hooked up your speakers properly. You can identify the positive and negative by using a regular AAA or AA battery.

What would be the odds that i hooked them all wrong though. Wouldnt at least one give off sound at a normal volume?

Ill check again though. Even the Tuner radio isnt giving off any sound either even with one speaker hooked up.

Did you check in the menu if you have to assign the digital inputs? I have no experience with that receiver, but a lot, if not most have assignable digital inputs, so you can assign them to any source input. I'd start there and see what you find.

Nope they did not take it back. Dakmart made me talk to their service tech who told me the same thing that the Denon service tech told me, that my receiver doesnt work. No shit!!

They both told me to send it to the local service center and it will be fixed within a week under warranty. I dropped it off Thursday so i should get it back this week.

No shit.

I was making the point that they're ghetto. I wouldn't spend a dollar at a place named "Dakmart". "Authorized" dealer or not.

Yep, not worth it to save a few pennies.

Still debating on selling the unit after i get it back. Dont want any issues with the pos after warranty is over.

Got the receiver back yesterday, they replaced some part dealing with the power supply.

Seems to work now. Denon owners, how loud do you normally have the volume for movies?

I seem to still have to crank it to (-15) to get decent sound. Is that normal?

The volume you get is going to depend on the sensitivity of your speakers. Just turn it to where it needs to be.

The speakers I have can handle a pretty high volume, so yea, on my 3805 -15 is pretty normal...and pretty loud...

Yea there is something totally wrong with this unit. I was thinking that maybe i was deaf and had to put -10 to get the volume that i wanted in movies. Which to me wasnt THAT loud.

Then my new subwoofer cames in today. I hook it up and do the auto setup on the Denon. It beeps in each speaker inculding the sub. But the sub's beeps are very low. Well no biggie ill just turn up the volume on the sub. No dice, same thing.

So i go into manual setting on the Denon to turn the bass up. Still no change. At this point im bitching since i think its the subwoofer. I grabbed my old receiver and hooked it up, guess what? The subwoofer plays and POUNDS.

WTF Dakmart. I sent them an email that im returning this shit and want a refund. I think i been pretty nice about this up till now. I even gave them a chance to fix this the first time.

Thats my rant. Dont buy from them.

I went back again to the Denon service center and they once again told me that theres something wrong with my receiver. So dakmart is refunding me.

ugh what a pain. Im just going to circuit city to overpay for a brand new one.

Rant finally over
