Yet another receiver thread.

OK, so I want to get a new receiver around xmas, as my old one is crapping out (center channel no longer works)

So, I want a receiver with 2 1080p HDMI ports in, one out. Thats my big requirement.
I wouldn't like to spend more then a grand, but preferably around $600 if possible.

I'm so out of the loop on newer components and I dont really have the time to research everything now, so if anyone has suggestions I'm open.

If worse comes to worse, I suppose a REALLY good receiver with dual optical ports would be acceptable, assuming I will get better sound quality over a cheaper model with HDMI....you know what I'm saying.

GO!

Thats super. Where is the recommendation on a model?

Why do you still choose to run optical or digi-rca over just using hdmi?

Go do some research or maybe search here. I am tired of answering the same questions over and over and over. Anyone that has actually been here in the last year knows I will say buy Marantz. That reminds me, when are you getting banned again

This same shit has been discussed many times over. Sorry if I don't want to hold your hand and walk you through the process. Grow a set and do some research on your own.

Look, asshole. It's plain and simple. You want a receiver to switch your hdmi. I merely came in and mentioned that I run my optical or digital coax. Your reply to that was:

"Thats super. Where is the recommendation on a model?"

So you can do two things, one go fuck yourself. Two, go buy whatever the hell you want. I really don't care. Good luck with your search.

Oh cool, others in a pissing match. The one's between Pull_T and I arent enough...

Anyway Sarlacc, I would go with Denon. I bought a 3805 a few years ago and I've been very happy with it. It drives the shit out of your speakers. Fantastic amps in them. They should have a model in that price range. I've always found them to have the most inputs/outputs.

At the $600 price point, I would (and did) go with the Onkyo TX-SR705; $625 from Amazon. It has 3 HDMI inputs, Audessy speaker delay/level setup, 7.1 sound, upconversion of non-HDMI inputs to 1080i on the HDMI output, etc....

It kicks ass and even though I've owned and enjoyed Denon receivers for many years, I couldn't bring myself to pay nearly double for a similarly equipped receiver.

If you really only will ever need two HDMI inputs, the little brother TX-SR605 can be found for under $500.

Onkyo's 605/705/805 are pretty good receivers for your price range, although I've heard about some problems with the video being subpar when converting analog signals to 1080p (it downgrades it to 720p) And why wouldn't you use audio over HDMI? The HD audio codecs (TrueHD, DTS-MA, etc.) can be sent over only HDMI. Sorry, but I'd take lossless audio over DD or DTS 5.1 any day.

And and the pissing contest between Sarlacc and 2001AudiS4.

There is no pissing contest. The guy is too stupid to realize how retarded he is acting. He comes in here, makes a quick statement about what he does, yet offers nothing else insightful as to why he chooses to do such or what a good model might be to look at. Yet he gets all butthurt when I call him on it.

Basically, he just wanted to come in here and act a dongknocker. Which he masterfully succeeded. He had no other reason, otherwise he would just have ignored the thread and moved on.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

Anyway... I ended up going with Denon for my new system, the 4308, primarily because of they're GUI. A fancy receiver is useless if the bulk of the features are inaccessible... I found this with my Rotel.

So far I'm loving the Denon.

For me, the UI was a top priority feature. So if it's important to you, consider an Onkyo. You can get one of their upper-end models for under $1000 and they too have a very nice GUI.

For the record, I'm running HDMI from every component, and two HDMI's to my TV from the receiver.

Primarily because I have the picture settings for one input tuned for cable box viewing and one input tuned for DVD viewing.

Well, you know what I mean.

Personally, like Soopa, I like Denon, but it is more expensive. For your price range, I think Onkyo is your best bet. I've seen the 605 for less than $400 and I'm sure you could get the 705 for $600. For me, the highs on the Onkyo are a bit too tinny.

I'm a big fan of Denon. I have the 1906 but I think its latest iteration, the 1908, is just the ticket for you.

Denon AVR-1908

Looks like that one won't upconvert to the HDMI ports -- upconversion is to component video, so you'll need component video + HDMI to the TV, and will have to switch between the two on the TV.

Other than that, it's pretty comparable to the Onkyo.

With all this HDMI upconverting talk, don't forget to at least test the converter you already own: your TV.

OK, so many seem to be huge Denon fans, perhaps I will have to seriously give them a look.

I kinda feel the same as everyone else does in regards to Onkyo being a little tinny. I much prefer Yamaha to them.

I dont need any kind of upcoverting...well, maybe for the wii, but right now it looks fine going in to my tv at 480p. Everything else will be HD - my xbox360 w/hd dvd, and my bluray player. And either of those upconvert SD-DVD just fine, but I dont watch SD-DVD nearly as much anymore.

What I want is to make sure the HDMI posts on the receiver can handle 1080p. and Im not always finding that info in the product descriptions.

Ok I think i narrowed it down to the Denon 1906 or the Onkyo TX-SR805.

and BUMP for more suggestions.

The SR605 seems really impressive for the money. http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers...9.html?tag=txt

I have yet to hear an Onkyo that sounds as good as a Yamaha or a Denon.

I'd go with the Denon.

It's hard to compare those two receivers. The Denon isn't HDMI and the Onkyo is. The Onkyo decodes the HD codecs while the Denon doesn't.

The 805 is much better than the 605 as far as sound quality. A lot depends on what speakers you have, too.

IMO, the Onkyo 605/705/805 are probably some of the best bang-for-your-buck receivers. You pay a premium if you get a Denon or Yamaha with similar specs, but you can hear the difference, IMO.

OK so in other words its between video quality and sound quality?

Would it help if i mentioned that I have a PS3 and HD/comcast box hooked up to Samsung LNT4661 (1080p) Thats it.

I'd assume the PS3 and Samsung processing can be efficient enough for the video quality? I rarely watch non-HD channels with Comcast btw.

the video quality of the samsung is good enough.

I'd say go with the denon it does have hdmi. It allows for hdmi switching. But does not do analog upres which you dont need because of your components youre using.

The onkyo actually downreses 1080i to 720p. Not to mention most people i know say they are a little tinny to the ear. I dunno.

I have the Onkyo SR-674 coupled to a Samsung LNT-4665F, the picture quality @ 1080p is out of this world... I have Orb Audio speakers and the sound is just as nice and the video.

I vote for Onkyo SR-805

But the Denon 1906 doesn't have HDMI inputs. Or does he mean the 1908?

And I'm not sure, but I think the Onkyo down res issue is with analog inputs, not HDMI.
