Why is my HDMI cable makes weird nose?

Hey guys,
I am having issue with my hdmi setup with my dell laptop. Recentely, I hooked it up to my 40" samsung tv and every time I watch a videoclip, it makes weird cracking (more like scratch) nose. I thought it was my hdmi cable so I tried using different cable, but no result.

What is causing this problem? Is it my laptop or the cable? I tried googling this topic but nothing came up.

Any advice would help!

with the new cable did it make the noise or did it stop? Try plugging something else into that HDMI port and see if it makes the noise. If yes, then it's the port on the TV. If no, Its the laptop

that scratch sound will come on every min or so and it won't stop! I tried different cable and also tried on my other tv, but no result.

I think it is the laptop that is doing this. FML. I hate dell.

take out the power adapter and run the laptop on battery, does it stop or does it still continue? Try taking out the battery and running it JUST on electrical power with the adapter, does it stop?

How long is the HDMI cable? A longer cable will not be able to carry high amounts of bandwidth. You can try swapping it out for a new High Speed HDMI cable (HDMI 1.4). It may clear up the issue. I've switched over to the new high speed cables for longer runs and have cleared up some issues with no video and sound issues, including a hissing/popping sound.

I haven't tried that yet. I will do that when I get home...

Thanks for the advice!

It is pretty long. It's long because it needs to run through my wall to reach the laptop. I guess if csmeance mathod doesn't work then I will try using new HDMI cable to fix this issue.

Any idea how long it is? Through my distributor, the price difference between a 20 ft High Speed HDMI and a 30 ft High Speed HDMI is something like $70

I'm currently testing out csmeance's method... it's working! I haven't heard any scratch noise yet.

I'm going to run a movie to see if there is any noise...

from my tv to laptop isn't too far away from each other, so I think 20ft should be plenty enough for me. Is high speed HDMI cable that much better than regular HDMI cable? If it is then, time to invest to upgrade.

I did and it worked. After taking out power adapter, that sound didn't come back.

What is causing this issue? Is there way to fix this, or do I have to just leave it at that?

Anyway, at least I can watch stuff with peace. thank you!

It's electrical interference, my old Dell Inspiron 9300 does this even though the power cord is one side and the headphone jack is on the other!
