Need Receiver Help

hey guys,
i am getting a new 5.1 system from klipsch and need help on the reciver. Here is the link to the in celling speakers
http://www.klipsch.com/products/details/cs-650-r.aspx
The only reciver that I thought would be good was the Onkyo one based on my readings of Onkyo here. Here is the link to it:
http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=...s=Receiver&p=i

Can you guys tell me weather this is a suitable reciver for these speakers, I really don't mind the price, but need something that can deliver clean, excellent sound.

Also if there is something better, please post it for me.

BTW, it would be good if the reciver was THX certified and had all of that decoding stuff. Also I need a sub to go with the system, thanks guys

do you need a receiver just for audio? or video too? if video too, do you want HDMI? do you have any devices that only use component?

If it can Handle HD cables and HDMI, and is cabable of providing audio to the TV's speakers with the in-celling speakers off, then sure because there will be a few times where people would be sleeping and I wouldn't want them to wake-up. Also I would prefer it to have at least 2 HD inputs, 1 HDMI input, and more than 2 RCA (yellow, red and white) inputs. As for the SVS sub, i will look into the right priced one.

I have a 360 that uses compnent, a HD cable box that uses both HDMI and/or Component, an DVD player that uses Componet as well. I also have a PS2, a gamecube and the older VCR which uses the yellow, white and red plugs.

with your requirements, this is a quite simple box... however they are way to many options. narrow it down again.

your requirements
- built in amp
- at least one hdmi
- handle hd
- 2+ component
- 2+ rcas

what else is needed
- how many speakers are you running?
- be careful before you get a sub, depending on the receiver, you need active or passive
- do you need hdmi out (for one cable to the tv)
- whats the price?

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-rhgrIzS...0&I=580TXS505B

great value, but you'll need separate links to the tv (no upconvert)

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-rhgrIzS...0txs605b&wm=su

$230 more but upconverts

I need at least 5.1 as 5 speakers will be put in and 1 sub. I don't understand about the sub being passive or active. Also i do not really care about up-conversion that much. Thanks for the links for those two

passive or active - passive needs an external amp whereas active implies that it does not... it has a factory amp.

many like active subs because they are factory tuned and you dont need to worry about matching amps and things...

but im not good re subs and recievers... i really dont know much

upconvert i insist is needed because the simplicity... running a single HDMI cable to the tv rather than all separate cables and remembering the input number and stuff

the latter link should take care of all your needs and more including ipod links, xm radio, 2 + room links and all that crazy stuff... fits ur price figure?

perfectly, i will be needing two. As for subs, Would i need a passive or active one with the onkyo reciver you posted???? Also which ones are good, i don't want to spend too much on a sub because some of SVS's prices were really high going more than 500 dollars. I owuld like to keep the budget for 1 sub and 1 reciver at 750 dollars at the most.

Great price for a good receiver. Will last a long time and the sound is great (I own one). Fits your needs and the ability to accommodate your needs as they grow.

I really am not good with all this stuff, but from what i can read and understand, the only difference between the two is the addition of VLSC? THey both seem the same, but the one with 605 has ture HD and osme other things over this one.

actually, you're better off getting the 605, its the new model it kinda replaces the 674 and it supports HDMI 1.3 (not that you need it, but some day you will) The price is the same too.

being a bit dumb on this subject, but with these receivers is it possible so i can have it all hooked up, but use ONLY the TV speakers at times due to people sleeping and such, basically bypassing the built in amp that goes to the in ceiling speakers?

Not to keep on asking Dumb questions, but how does upconversion work? I will only have one HD source in 1080I and one in 1080P running to the reciver while the rest are 720p-480I. Just though i might ask.

Its magic. Kidding, basically it will take any analog signal (Component) and upconvert it to Digital (HDMI)

to adress my last problem, the sub woofer.Right now i have a home theater systme in a box which cost me 200 dollars from sony. The speakers are pretty weak and the sub is even weaker. The speakers have to be on volume 50 out of 60 to be able to be heard... I don't want to have this problem with my new setup so what sub would work really well with the onkyo receiver (605)?

I have an Onkyo receiver that's THX cert. along with THX cert. speakers myself... but correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm referring this to whoever knows)... but don't the speakers have to be THX cert. in order to really have a need for a receiver that's THX cert.? Are the klipsch speakers THX?

...and to be honest, I think the whole "THX" thing is overrated... Don't get me wrong, my system kicks ass... (mostly cuz of the speakers), but I think it would've been just as nice or even better if I had gotten a Denon or H.K. that's NOT THX cert. just my

I have seen many good reviews from svs as well, but are there any other companies that give out near or as good sound as svs for a lower price. As i said before, my budget for the sub is 225 dollars because the reciver is about 425 shipped and i wanted to keep my budget at 650. ( i meant 650, it was a typo in my other post mentioning 750)

You will be hard pressed to find a sub that cheap. Usually subs costs that much in a bundle, but by themselves they are full price.

I'm in the same bind as you. I have a PS3, and I'm getting HD cable from comcast and a Samsung 46" 1080p LCD shipped to me soon, I hope.

I have a Sony surround sound in a box as well. 700w receiver, 5 cube speakers and a sub. They need to be turned up to 45 or so before they can be heard.

The receiver does not have HDMI inputs, so I won't be able to get 5.1 sound out of my speakers. The only way to fix that is to, of course, buy an HDMI capable receiver. But I also don't want to kill my bank account. The TV, TV stand and furniture was enough for me to spend. I can't drop another $400 just on a receiver.

Currently looking into new surround sound in a box systems that have HDMI capability.

^^^Does your receiver not accept TOSlink (optical) input?

It has one optical input, but the television will not pass 5.1 sound through optical.

You can connect the PS3 directly to your receiver via optical to get 5.1.

optical FTW! Makes a HUGE difference! I switched to optical... right around the time when I first picked up Rainbow Six-Vegas... and I swear... when the bullets hit the cars behind you... it actually sounds like it!!! In Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter... when someone (either opponent or teammate) walks behind you... you hear it... and it's a little scary at first, cuz you don't know if it's a teammate or enemy...

New plan. After reviewing the back of my receiver, we will use either the TV speakers or digital coax (if the cable box has it) for watching regular television programming. I would hope it has digital coax so I can watch NASCAR with surround sound.

The PS3 which will be our main gaming/DVD device will be hooked up through optical, since what's the point of having high def TVs and blu-ray movies if you can't enjoy them in true digital sound?

I was panicking a little. Thought I was gonna have to buy a whole new surround sound in a box system. Some of the Samsung systems DO look nice, though...

I just want my damn television to get here. It's been 3 weeks and they're telling me another week until the shipment gets to them and goes out.

Another new plan. Just bought an optical switch from Monoprice for $7. 3 inputs, 1 output. Perfect for expanding your receivers ability to handle optical devices.
