The Samsungs are sexy in black, the model shown is good - but only 720p. The 1080p models are really more future friendly, but the 720p models are being moved for cheap - just depends how long you want to keep it and what you are going to watch on it.

^ Just coming in there to post that. I hate to sound like a broken record b/c every time someone asks about a new TV I usually jump in with the 1080p information. Thanks for handling that PA

But seriously, this is something you really need to consider. The reason the 720p TVs are so cheap is because they are being cleared out. Manufacturers are no longer making the 720p lines b/c 1080p is the new mainstream. And with devices like PS3, BluRav, and HD-DVD all supporting 1080p, it just proves that the new resolution is here to stay.

So, like PA said, you need to evaluate how long you're going to keep this TV and what it will be used for. It you're using it for HDTV, then 720p will be OK b/c 720p and 1080i will continue to be the default for HDTV for the forseeable future. But if you're planning to make it a Home Theater, then you should seriously look at going 1080p so you'll be in good shape now, and great shape for the future...

But to answer your question, for 720p, that TV you linked to is a very good one. Samsung is pretty much the DLP leader, so you can't go wrong with their sets.

Hey, no prob.

Next we'll get onto ranting about the fake 1080p chips or something...

the dlps are really nice when you get HD. I have a samsung 61 inch slp tv. Got it from samsclub and it was on sale for 2k. It's 1080 dpi (i think) and has pc input with hdmi

Actually the Samsung DLP you got is a native 720p set, although it will support 1080i as well (but not 1080p)...

what if its a smaller TV, like 32 or 37 in.....due to their size, there's not a huge visual improvement in 1080p vs. 720p

^ Correct, but per his original post, he's looking at 50"+ sets... so that is what my reply is based on...
