My First Home

My wife and I bought our first home in 2011 and have added new furniture, new decor, started finishing the basement along with several other small projects. Here are some pics of when we first purchased the house, and I'll add more as we make progress.

Ugly yellow and an old roof when we moved in, but the yard looked good:

Living room having one wall painted just a couple days after moving in.

After purchasing the new TV and hanging it above the fireplace. Obviously we changed the entire layout of the living room.

Living room today, not sure why a college football game isn't on the TV...

A couple not so good pictures of the kitchen, white appliances came with the house. Not my favorite, but they work. Also, and up close view of the granite counter tops with my favorite drink.

Painting the dining room one shade of gray darker than the wall in the living room:

Dining room with a reclaimed wood table, new chairs, and a modern rug.

In the next post I'll add the basement, garage, and exterior work that has been done. Let me know what you think!!

Nice house, everything flows nicely. I have been in my house for 2 years and still haven't painted. Keep up the good work.

Really like the exterior look

In the first pic of the old garage color, what is the thing mounted on your wall next to your wife (?)?

Thanks!!! No more grey in the house though, starting to get to be a little much.

It's the Rainbird sprinkler system control box.

Thanks a ton for the compliments! We had to argue with our HOA over the colors but they eventually came around to our idea.

I hope to upload progress on the basement in the next couple days.

Red door FTW! Nice!

...but then you had to go ugly up the garage with a 4G TL.

Fucking HOAs Seems like everybody I know involved with them can't stand them.

What exactly was their problem with your colors!?!

Thanks!

I love the 4G, plus I've managed to get my wife to want it now which means I can get rid of her TSX and pick up something new when I fall in love with a new car.

None of our colors were on their approved list and they were acting like I was trying to paint the house neon pink or something. I had to show the board a picture from a design book to get the idea passed.
My wife threatened to leave the house the original ugly yellow and they changed their tune.

Thanks man!

Looking forward to seeing yours done. I know there was some talk about putting an epoxy coating on your garage floor. You planning on doing that? Think I'll do mine this spring.

Finally got around to uploading some pics of the basement....

A bunch of wood and a mess of a basement:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123751628/http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123751628/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/87244476@N02/, on Flickr

Starting the framing:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123723151/http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123723151/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/87244476@N02/, on Flickr

Where my workout room will be. Also going to wire it as an office for future owners:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123722363/http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123722363/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/87244476@N02/, on Flickr

Storage under the stairs, left closet will be a cedar closet and right closet will be more storage:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123719029/http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123719029/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/87244476@N02/, on Flickr

The far wall will house all the electronics, the wall on the right will be home to a new television.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123729570/http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123729570/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/87244476@N02/, on Flickr

Workout room in the very back, small bar in the nook to the right:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123727872/http://www.flickr.com/photos/87244476@N02/8123727872/ by http://www.flickr.com/people/87244476@N02/, on Flickr

The bar area. Had to figure out what to do with the ceiling since the walls are at different depths and there is a support beam in the back. We decided to do a funky curve that will house some additional lighting. We also plan on installing some tile for the bar area which will have the same curve as the ceiling.
