I haven't used the 1000, but from my past experience w/ the huge Sony programmable ones, I much prefer a remote like my 880 that I can use with one hand

true, but its got its pimp factor, i mean, the 880 can't dim the lights and drop the shades when it turns your tv on and starts the movie. Also, the 1000 has an RF receiver you can buy that can control any IR device over RF. This way you can hide your components.

Sure it can, just depends on what other devices you have in your system to control those devices. You can also go with the 890 which is the rf based version of the 880. Actually, the 1000 is more or less just a touch screen version of the 890. In any case, I despise Harmony remotes. I used to like them, but as they have been more readily available in just about any store in the continental US, their software has become TOO simplified in order for the average joe shmoe to be able to use it. The adverse effect to this is that features have been taken away that used to be available. The software is a bit buggy, and the mere fact that you have to log-on to an internet connection makes it an extremely poor choice for a customer home theater installer. I much prefer the Universal line of remotes. I find them easier to use, feel better in your hand, MUCH more customizable, and more solidly built. The programming is not for everyone though. The only plus to the Harmony's is that for someone who doesn't know too much about computers "should" be able to just enter their info into the site and be up and running. I only say "should" because as I said, the software tends to be quite buggy.

it does look like the 890 is what you want since it has RF, but when you compare the price of the 880 to the 890, its tough to swallow the difference for just the RF.

Can't speak for other brands, but I think the Harmony software is fantastic. It you're familiar w/ web browsing then it works great, plus w/ all the profiles near nearly every device ever made, its easy to add things into your system. The wizards do 90% of the work, but getting that last 10% does take a little bit of work to figure out how to do exactly what you want. You learn how to tweak it w/ some experience, my 880 setup is perfect.

much prefer the size of my 880 over my old sony 2-handed remotes, my wife couldn't stand the size of the remote.
