Yeah...25mbps is definitely not enough for 4K HDR streams. Well it is, but then you can't do anything else at the same time.
I do enjoy quite a few of the Netflix shows but I've already blown through a lot of the seasons already. I usually will start it up again in the spring time when the new seasons of everything drop and broadcast TV series go on break. Normal TV has some damn good shows these days...
I get 500mbps+ data transfer speeds internal to the network on the 5ghz band from opposite sides and levels of the house, guessing that points to the router not being an issue. The router is within line of sight of the TV without anything in the way. Not a total newb at this one.
Netflix has a lot of offer. Especially with the shows they produce. Some of the best available IMHO. If you are going into using Netflix with the mindset of watching movies or simply for 4K content, then you will be disappointed. But for the money and what they do offer, I think they are still one of the best around.
There are many more factors that go into it than simply the rated performance of a router. For one, you should hard wire your gear and not rely on wifi, even on a 5GHz connection (which has very narrow range). Yes, you should upgrade your ISP service to faster service, but don't automatically overlook the router. I have seen some routers with some of the highest claimed speeds and performance completely take down client systems due to some wonky processing or some other things going on inside. We don't even use any commercial grade routers on any of our systems because we have seen some erratic behaviors before. Not saying your router is an issue, just don't automatically overlook it as an issue.

I have 2 decent sized Samsung TV's, both have built in Netflix/Hulu Plus but I don't their apps. I have a couple of Roku's hardwired and works much better. I don't see my self ever going back to cable TV, all we need is Netflix, Hulu Plus and SlingTV during football season(live streaming ESPN) and free over the air of course.

From what I'm reading, this might not be the holiday season to go 4k unless you're TV shits itself. Really most of the high end models are the ones with good processing HDR. Not sure we will see deep discounts in those yet. Also if you're a 360 S gamer looking to go 4k (I might get one for 4K Bluray use) then there are only certain TV's that are compatible via a list I saw on Reddit. Don't just buy through slickdeals a 60" UHD 4k for $600 on sale. Chances are it won't be a huge upgrade.

I honestly think optical storage is going to go away here soon. To the point where it's not even worth it to buy a 4K player. Streaming is the way of the future for sure. Just make sure you have a compatible streaming device and good enough internet speed and you should be good to go.

You can always get this at $4,500. Server that streams 4k content with HD audio including Atmos but you have to buy the content from their store at $30 a movie.

Anyone keeping up on 2017 CES. More OLED options from different companies although they're made from LG. TV's getting thinner, easier to mount, etc. I'd post links but I just got busy as hell.

Actually, its the opposite. The ergonomics of all the news are shit. Inputs that are in terrible locations. Some TVs have the power plug so close to where the mounting arms attach to the TV that you have to modify the mount. Bump outs, recessed screw holes, external input adaptors, external power supplies. The list goes on. None of the engineers of these things have ever actually installed one.

I read a couple article about the new LG and Samsung flagships. Two things stuck out, in reverse order:
The curved screen thing seems to be dead or at best bleeding out. The two top of the line sets don't have a curved option. So that may be a moot point going forward. Tough break, my coworkers who are cooler than me (or so they thought).
Second, the sets have gotten super flat and are basically just a LCD panel. All the guts have been moved to a secondary box that is mounted (or placed, perhaps) below the display, like on a shelf or something. Off hand, I think one of the manufacturers incorporated it as a speaker bar. Regardless, the trick thing about that, I thought, was that the connection from the guts to the display screen is a super thin cable. Some speculate it's optical, and a tiny power lead. So that makes mounting pretty easy, almost like hanging a picture. Then you run the wire (I'm envisioning flat and thinner than a coax) to the guts and Bob's your uncle.

Hmm. I can see your point. And now that you mention it, it would seem entirely on par for that wire dongle jobber to be proprietary so one can't just go buy a 12 foot HDMI cable to extend it. Especially since they're running power along side it.
From a business sense, it makes perfect sense... TV comes with a 2.5 footer, but no one will ever be able to use it... Optional <fill in usable length> cord: $300. Genius!
But it *seems* really keen. And I want to like the idea... As I still make due with a 1080 DLP on it's third replacement bulb.

The OLED thing looks cool but these sets are still going to be in the $5k+ range for a 65" model. I'll wait until OLED comfortably drops below $2000 before I jump into that one. That's the level where the technology is usually matured enough to be reliable for the long run.

I think it's the opposite. The OLED has a true high refresh rate compared to the one on LCD panels. FA works great but isn't as good as individually lit pixels. The downside of OLED used to be burn in from video game HUDs but I think that issue is pretty non-existent these days. The LG for $3k was probably either a 1080P model or no bigger than a 55".

Dolby Vision and HDR10 are color profiles/wider gamut ranges.
Haven't read up on HDR10...but Dolby Vision basically reads metadata of dolby vision supported content and then displays it according to your TV and its settings.
What processing engine the TV uses is what will deal with 4k/1080 etc.

Here's a rant....
Sony/Google..More sony pushed an OTA update last month promoting "interactive TV" some Samba app that runs at all times in the back ground.
fucking up Netflix and a whole bunch of chit, like not being able to turn the TV on with remote or physical button until a set amount of time...I believe the app is draining resources over an 8 hour period of screen off time. It won't recognize input commands.
Is this the future of cars too!!!?!?!

Justn, get a Sammy next time. They never update their chit. I'm constantly annoyed with my Sony TV.
Great picture, but super slow. You can't do anything for like a minute after you turn it on (Powering On.. please wait).
Tuning has always taken forever.. super slow between OTA channel changes.
Anyways, this Apple TV bypasses all that shit and makes the TV it's bitch. Full audio and power control, love it.
I also use it as my primary Directv Now device. Highly recommend.

OTA update in Dec. or Jan... whichever one brought SAMBA interactive app
after OTA update, Sony introduces SAMBA interactive tv.
Samba interactive is running in background AT ALL TIMES, you cannot disable it.
so, somehow the update/Samba App is preventing power from input after 8 hours of screen off time.
you do not have to unplug TV to get it to work again, simply press power button once...and wait 5 minutes...then try again...
remote will be responsive

Sony Forums are CRAWLING with "my TV is broken"
although, I dont think people have concluded that it's the OTA update that caused it.
only true techies will understand or put 2+2 together that the update broke TV's
and I tried to register on the Sony forums, but the sign up involves too much...it isnt simple....name and email...no they want some other fuckin info too.
there's no "leave feedback" button on my tv menu to fuckin give feedback, so i've been quiet on that front.
But I'm DEF. sure Sony KNOWS about it.
we'll just have to wait for them to push an update

This is my gripe with software updates like this. If this caused a WIDESPREAD issue with all of the Sony TV's out there, how did they not catch this during testing? I love the fact that software can be remotely updated whenever or that updates can make old stuff better but this is fucking bullshit that my $2k TV shits the bed because someone didn't do their job.
