Even paying cost for gear, I vomit a little when I think about the amount of money I've spent. I buy gear to test before rolling out quite a bit. So I've gone through some gear. Currently have a full 42u rack completely full and a 12u wall hanging network rack for the network and some other smaller items. I am out of room and overflowing. Also redid the wiring in the whole house a few months back and it already looks like shit cause I keep changing things

BTW, I got a nice BRAND NEW Sony XBR series 65" tv I am looking to sell if anyone is interested. I unboxed and hung it on a job and the client decided they wanted to go smaller and had us get a 55". I can only send back TVs that are defective once opened, so I could not send this one back. It was never in connected or plugged in. Went up on the wall, he saw it, it came down and back in the box.

What brand patch panel do you use?? I have a thread going in Technology ramblings asking for help about Structured Wiring. I decided to go rack versus flush enclosure.
Also you're too far else I would be interested in the TV!

You'll probably need to find someone local on that though.. damn.
also.. @ thinking it's too big. That's a first. TBH, our Sony didn't look that big in the showroom.. freaking ginormous in the house.

His fireplace had a pattern with flat molding. The 65" stretched beyond the molding, so it did look a little odd, I have to admit. The 55" stopped right at the molding, so it was a cleaner look overall.

Should have extended the molding..

So finally got an answer back on my speakers from the local audio place that did the work on my parents house and I bought my receiver and other speakers from. They contacted def tech and the readings are correct for the speakers I have and won't hurt my amp at all. So last night I installed them and replaced the crappy cheap chinese made speakers that came in the house.
Def Tech on the Left old crap on the right
Def Tech on the Left old crap on the right
Now here is where it gets odd. The Def Tech Speakers were actually installed in my parents place by the previous owner when the house was built. I guess one must have went bad over the years at one of them turns out to have a newer tweeter design that is movable compared to the other. I never figured this out before till I popped the speaker grills off last night. I just made sure to aim it straight down. They sound 100x better regardless though.
In the long run it won't be much of an issue as I have a set of 9in ones I will eventually install probably but obviously I will need to inlarge the holes in the ceiling while keeping them lined up correctly. For right now this just worked out to be an easy swap.

Buddy let me have some Mica MB42 that he had sitting in a box. He ordered them after seeing good reviews from AVS forum and Amazon to try them out then he went balls out and spent hella money on a new setup and forgot to test them. He told me since I didn't have bookshelf speakers to give them a try until I'm ready to upgrade.

Been thinking about just getting an amplifier to push my speakers outside... just have to decide on which one.

Need a tv for the mountain house.
4K or no 4K that is the question.
Looking at 65"
If I bought a 4K I would put that in our primary home and move the current non-4K to the mountains.
Anyone?

I posted that Sony 4K XBR a while back.. would have been a good grab. I think that's a solid plan.

Needs a 930
I was able to score a Sony SA-ST7 for close to nothing but problem is that there is no subwoofer with it. Any ideas how I might get a sub to work with it besides buying the model that is supposed to be with the bar?

you might be SOL on that one unless there is actually a sub output connection.

Yeah I researched all day and no luck. They sell the subs for around 300 so that's still not bad for everything.
I'll probably not buy the sub knowing what I know now and just put it on the porch to give my outside tv a better sound.

Looks like you're SOL like Maj said. If it had RCA outputs, you MAY have been able to do so but dont think so with this soundbar. Your solution is what I would do as well.

Well seems I will be looking for some rear bookshelf speakers soon for my surround system as inspections on the new house are going well so far and it has a vaulted ceiling in the living room so there won't be and in ceiling rears anymore.

I am trying to discern the difference (besides price) of the two receivers to replace an Onkyo 7.1 receiver I already have. I am trying to decide between the Onkyo TX-NR646 and the Yamaha RX-A840 (which is discontinued).
Here is what I need from the new receiver:
-Powered zone 2 speaker outputs
-Zone 2 or 3 preout composite connections
-Be able to listen to digital sources in zone two (not necessarily different sources than main zone). Just want to be able to hear HDMI and optical sources that are playing in main zone and zone 2
-Dual sub outs
Main difference between the two is that the Yamaha has more features it seems.
RX-A840 - AVENTAGE - Audio & Visual - Products - Yamaha United States
I do like Onkyo though, and on the website, it did say I can use digital sources for the second zone. However, it has less preouts and less inputs than the Yamaha.
Receivers | A/V Receiver | Stereo Receiver | AVR | TX-NR646 | Onkyo USA
Anyone have either of these receivers?

I believe with the Yamaha A840 it is like my 1040 in that you can listen to an HDMI or optical audio on zone 2 but only in party mode meaning the same thing is playing in zone 1 at the same time. If you want to listen to a separate optical signal or HDMI on zone 2 I believe you are going to have to step up to the new A-850. I am actually considering getting the 1050 to replace my 1040 for that feature alone as I would prefer to use optical audio for my zone2 rather than standard stereo connection I am using right now for it.

Also, can I hook up an amp to the preamp section of the Yamaha preouts AND the zone two speakers? If not, why not? With the A840, I want to hook up the dining room speakers to the Zone 2 speaker outputs, the Zone 2 preout to a separate amp powering 2 speakers in my garage, and the 7.1 preouts to two separate speakers that we can listen to out back. Is that possible with the A840?

With that said I like Pioneer. The D3 AMPs that are in some of their AVRs are pretty damn nice. Low heat.

SC-91 and up have the D3 amps. I didn't check to specs to see if they all have a full set of preouts.

I wouldn't bother with Outlaw's or Emotiva's preamps. If you decide that you want an amp get a receiver with preouts to drive it. Emotiva/Outlaw amps both have strong following on the interweb.
