Call me a video whore, but I bought the HD-DVD player. I was pondering getting the Oppo and I heard about how the X1A was just as good as an upconverter, so I figured, why not just plunge a couple of extra hundred and see what the hubbub is all about?
The nice thing about 1st gen is that you can get upgrade the firmware pretty easily.
I've had no glitches with my player.
No, I'm not buying any movies till this whole thing is worked out. For now I'll happily netflix my HD-DVDs.
I'm watching on a 720p front projector, shooting roughly an 85" screen or so.

"DigiTimes reports that several major vendors, including Sony and Matsushita, have suspended shipments of the blue laser diodes that drive both high-def disc formats. The rumored laser shortage could result in shipment delays for new models of Blu-ray and HD DVD players and drives past the upcoming holiday season, cooling the next-gen DVD format war until 2007."

Why do I see advertisements on TV for DVD movies that say they are available on Blue Ray? Are their blue ray players now? I thought PS3 was going to be the first?
