HD Antenna?

I use an indoor pair of good ol' rabbit ears. I'm about 25 miles SE of Chicago. Everything works great. Integrates well with my HR10 DTV TiVo.

I use rabbit ears as well. I'm 25 miles from DC. I have two of these http://www.amazon.com/TERK-HDTVLP-In...932302&sr=8-13 (amplified), one in the basement (would work better if not in the basement) and one in the bedroom. The one in the bedroom (3rd level of the house) picks up channels from Baltimore over 60 miles away.
I got both for $50.00 plus shipping from amazon.com, vendor screwed up and sent me two.
If you're close enough a regular set could work.

Okay, here is the sitution:
I have DirecTV without the HD package (waiting on more channels) and a DTV HD receiver. My tv for the time being is HD-Ready. My question is, is it possible to pick up the local HD channels through the DTV receiver and antenna without having an HD package?

^^^It is. And if you can pick up the channels with an antenna, it'll look better than over cable or a dish since there's no compression.
Here's a good explainer:

I bought one very similar to this one from Target except that mine is amplified with 24db gain. I'm about 35 miles from the broadcast tower with decent line-of-sight from my roof. The antenna is sitting on top of the entertainment cabinet in our bedroom, no line-of-sight to the tower. I get very good reception on all the local digital channels except for Channel 13 (66 on my tuner) which frequently loses signal or pixalates (sp?) terribly. I can pick up Channel 13 if I adjust the rabbit ears and the loop but then I lose other channels.
