42" an 32" LCD

I'm looking for both a 42" LCD and 30-32" LCD for the new place I'm moving into.

Any suggestions?

No set price budget ATM. I'm open to a variety of suggestions (both low and high budget)

For LCD, I'm a fan of Samsung. As far 42", I'm pretty sure Samsung makes either 40" or 46". If you're really set on 42", then I'd look at Sharp.

just out of curiosity... what is the distance from where the TV's going to be, and where you're going to be viewing?

the reason why I ask is... when I was deciding between 42" and 46", I was thinking... "what if... 46" is TOO big?" cuz, it's only about 8ft... (my bedroom), but I went ahead and got the 46" anyway... and I"m just glad I did... even though, they have charts with "suggestions" out there that say... for that distance... 42" is plenty... Heck, I'd go 50" if I had to do it again

oh, and... I went with a Samsung 1080p LCD

Also, Vizio is a brand that has been getting better and better as of late. The prices are pretty low and they are pretty well rated by Cnet.com. You can check them out at your local Costco store, or you can order them online.

Vizio has been a long time maker of TVs for other companies, and they finally came out with their own line.

I would recommend staying away from Magnavox, while it is made by Philips, it is no where near the same level of quality, and the customer service (from what I have read) leaves a LOT to be desired. The prices are low, but the reviews I read while in the market were not very good.

You should also check out www.avsforum.com and search for whatever model you are looking at. Chances are that someone on there has owned that model at some point and will have some good feedback for you. The feedback on there helped me when I was buying a new TV a month or so ago.

I would say go for a 40" Samsung as a compromise. You can pick up one for a little over $1K for a 720P set.

Yeah I really love my Samsung. I have the 26' version of this TV. I bought it from the same merchant as this one and had a great experience with them - highly recommend them.

i bought myself a Sharp LC42D64U, and this thing is badass. I did, however, get it on sale at Circuit City for $1079 from $1799 and got lucky, but it's an awesome set. I would definitely look at either Sony, Samsung, or Sharp as far as LCD's go, or if you wanna go budget check out Vizio.

If you are going to get a 40", I'd suggest you get a 1080p TV, which also is more future-proof.

My parents just got two Vizio's from Costco. They're very happy with both. I'll be sitting out in the freezing temperatures waiting for the doorbuster sales to get a 32" Phillips TV on Black Friday, however. For the same money, I'm going with Phillips but Vizio's are excellent TV's as well.

My friend has a 42" 1080p Panasonic. I don't know the model# but it was $1700 from BB. No interest for 3 years.

The TV has 4 real speakers (40W each) in the back. When you crank it up, it is like a real stereo with massive amount of bass, etc., etc. My friend doesn't even bother to plug the TV to his stereo. haha!

The picture and everything are great. The menu and the remote are very easy to use and there are tons of plugs in the back for you to plug all kind of craps you have.

However, the screen is glass. So, it is very reflective. So, you need to close the blind to watch it if you have windows all over your place.

Another thing is that the TV is very heavy. I don't think you can hang it on the wall.

Biggest thing to consider with LCD is side viewing. Although manufacturers claim good side viewing angles; they don't claim the picture is good from the sides. With LCD there is only a pretty small 10-20 degree sweet spot when viewing from dead center. Any off axis viewing the color/contrast/brightness go all over the place.

Don't think it's that bad? Pause a picture on a LCD screen with a mostly white background and some color images on it. While staring at the screen move around and watch the white change colors as you get to the sides of the LCD.

If you don't frequently have guests sitting around the TV at all angles go for it; otherwise I'd get a plasma.

I ended up buying the 40" Samsung LCD 1080P. Circuit City/lcdtvs.com etc had it for approx $1200 with tax or shipping for the 720P. Amazon had the 1080P for a hundred bucks more (1300) free shipping/no tax.

Thanks to all.
