Tomato plants with less than ideal amount of sun

I want to try to get a potted tomato plant going this year but I'm pretty sure I don't have enough sun. Does anyone know if there are any varieties of plants that can do decent with < 8 hours of sun?

Do squirrels eat tomatoes?

never had a problem with squirrels.. and tomatos need lots of sun to ripen... you don't have a side with sun all day?

I have a small area that I believe may get about 5-6 hours of direct sunlight.

If you don't have at least 4 hours of full sun a day you won't have a full healthy plant. Sounds like you will be fine with <8 hours of sun. Tomatoes like sun, the more the better. Dank wetness will cause fungus and disease that can't be cured. For preventative measures against fungus, spray with a water copper dust mixture( if you are in a damp climate).
Squirrels don't eat tomatoes regularly, but woodpeckers do. One peck out of your best looking ripe tomato, every time. It's annoying..I've also seen chipmunks take bites out of my tomatoes.

Heirloom tomatoes will be harder to grow. They are not disease resistant. Look for at least VFN resistant tomatoes. Look up what each letter stands for. I've uses better boy, ealry girl, and Beefsteak. Last year I tried "Orange Blossom" heirloom, and had a hard time with Verticullum Wilt (V) and some other diseases. Nice looking tomato though.
