I wanted to share another link with you, just in case you want some pre-owned speakers. It's www.audiogon.com

It's a great site and the people are typically very reputable and professional - it's mostly audio enthusiasts selling stuff to upgrade. I got my Paradigms there and they were rated 8/10 and could have passed for new. Just another option for you.

Thanks for the link!
I bought a set of these for about half of the price they have listed.

As my good friend and colleague says, it's better to get info twice than not at all. That audiogon site is pretty cool - I could spend all day there just looking at the stuff people are selling.

Cool man - my brother in law has all JBL speakers in his living room and they sound pretty good. Enjoy the new set up man!

It is a great site, I was one of the original members of the site, I've seen all of its transitions and even worked with Arnie(the fellow who owns the site) on some of the revisions/imrpovements the site has seen over the years. Its a shame the site is what it is today, because a few years ago it was MUCH better, I think greed has taken the place of doing the right thing. That being said for hi-end audio its as good as it gets for selling, buying and information.

So what was it like a few years ago? I assume more focused on the actual hobby and the community rather than turning a profit? If so, that is how Ebay progressed - as they grew they had to make a profit, so some necessary evil changes had to be made.

The cost to run ads has nearly doubled, not that I think its expensive for high-end gear, but I am going to have to think twice about posting a $100/pair of interconnects for $4, on a $10,000 piece its not as unreasonable - IMO. Also the forums have changed a lot as have the people who post on it. Of course the community has grown, which I think is great, but there have been a lot of complete fucking idiots posting and you can usually keep them in check, but with a hobby that's completely subjective its hard. Its not like cars, your car runs a certain time 0-60 and to the 1/4, there is no lying about it when push comes to shove. As were audio is all up to the person listening, based on there experiences and personal prefferences on any given day, given certain conditions - do you think your system is going to sound good to you after you've had a huge fight with your wife? Probably not as good as when you make up

Also how the forums function, I used to post frequently, I am probably one of 15 people in the world with over 1000 "replies to a topic", but due to the changes that have taken place I have decided no longer to post on the public forums. I now contact people directly if I have any information that could possibly help them. The forums used to be more of a message board, you saw a topic, you could type a reply, hit submit and it would be posted instantly, now there are moderator's, if your post is seen as being a personal attack or off topic they will not post it. They also used to send you an email explaining why they didn't post it, that has stopped - which is against the new user agreement at audiogon. In other words it used to be fun, you could gather informations very quickly, and sometimes have exciting heated arguements.... those days are long gone. Before you guys get carried away, keep in mind that forum is NOTHING like this one, they have at best 20 new topics a day there, its not hard to maintain the site - and you'd think it would be easier with the increased revenue from the higher rates.

You do the math, over 10,500 pieces at any given time, not including featured ads, bold listings, features sellers, and recommended dealers they are pulling in $42,000 every 31 days - and they can't provide service to people who use it. Imagine if you gave the same income, he could arrange for you to get head while on acurazine

Nice post dude, that's a pretty cool historical perspective. I never posted on the audiogon forums, but certainly used the buy/sell arena to pick up some gear.
