reciever and speakers

I am looking at this system what do you guys think?? What system would you go with in this price range and why? I know my budget is low just trying to up grade a little bit. At the least I need to replace my reciever is there any worth having in the 350.00 to 400.00 range? Please post links to your suggestions. Merry Christmas and thanks for the help.

IMO, stay away from this one: 10% distortion!

Look for a better one.

I would never buy a HT in a box, personally.
I would buy a separates--receiver, dvd, speakers, etc....

But I would think this one if given as the only choices in the link,

decent mid level receiver. yamaha makes good value receivers. keep in mind that this is just a receiver, and doesn't have speakers (didn't know if you were still keen on that HTIB).

I don't completely agree with that, sony does make some good audio products.

The 9000es, 999es, XA-777es SCD-777es and SCD-1 are all great in there respected price range and when modified are brought to new level(capable of competing with the best out there).

Some Sony speakers are also fairly highly regarded by a number discerning audiophiles. Sony made a $40k pair of speakers a few years ago that are highly desireable and seldom ever seen on the used market. And they make a very good Headphone(MDR R10) "system" that many headphone people just love to death.

That being said they make more poor quality gear then they do high quality equipment. But when they apply themselves they are capable of making some VERY good gear.

I like our Boston Acoustic 3 piece system--a woofer and 2 satellites. Sounds great hooked up to a 200W Sony receiver.

Go w/ a higher power one (RMS), not peak power and w/least distortion. Something like 0.01% IHM distortion or less.

7.1, natural convection cooling, not fan cooling.

I love mine and I spent under 300 with tax but I got this one when it was on sale for 249 in store

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1109234042771

great reciever with a DVD player 5.1 Dolby Digital and a receiver 1000 watts

great deal for the money and it sounds great, the one you posted is a 6.1 but for 200 less you get 1 less speaker and the same wattage

good deal if I may say so

Kind like the little kid that had not experience all that are out there; how do you compare when this is the only one you heard. You may think it sounds great, but it is not, it is distorted sound. 10% distortion!!

Good that you enjoy it.

But what I was saying is that: how many systems that you set up and audition them in the same room?

It has to do with stressing the output devices usually. Integrated Chip (IC) amps are very prone to this. The full amplification stage is done inside this one chip. Most cheapo recievers have all five channels on ONE chip, some split it up into a couple. These IC amps have tons of distortion, and in fact usually put out 1/10 of their rated power when compared to a cleaner source.

You can tell these units fairly easily by peeking though the air slots in the top. Look at the heat sink. One-two big, black/gray chips mounted to the heat sink? POS IC amp. 12-20 smaller chips mounted to the heat sink? Real multistage amp.

Next time you are in Circuit City (or equiv) peek into a cheapie reciever, then glance into something like an HK or Onkyo unit >$500. You'll see exactly what I'm talking about. It only gets confusing when people like Onkyo try to do a real L/R channel, and an IC based center/surrounds.

Most people don't use that much power at home, I've suprised a great number of people with how loud a true 35 watts per side can actually get. As long as you have 50wpc@<1% THD, you're good to go.

As far as 10% sounding like crap, most speakers have more than that anyway so its doubtful most people would ever notice until they hooked a super expensive set of speakers up to the unit. In which case they wouldn't be using the reciever from a $299 system so it's a moot point anyway.

Also, if 97Acura3.0CL is happy with the sound then quit busting his balls over his system not meeting your needs. My boss, owner of a company that has a sound equipment inventory well into the seven digits, has a Bose Lifestyle system at home. Not the best - but it's small, easy for everyone in his family to operate, and still impresses most of the neighbors. It's all about what each persons needs.

Thanks for thge reply
How big of a difference is it from a 32 bit to a 24 bit dac????
Which of these recievers do you like.
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_...sterid=11891229
http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_...asterid=2609418

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_...sterid=12618410

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_...asterid=3525565
both denons have a 32 bit (dac)
does one of these recievers stand out more than the other or are they all pretty much in line with each other???

How a dac is employeed/designed has more to do with the sound then the number of bits. A lot of you guys are WAY to hung up on specs.

There are a lot of them out there.

But it is understandable coming from a guy that has tube amps.

You do have a very nice setup though.

It is probably worth more than my house.

I bought the 2105 earleir this year and have been pleased with it. I am running two Paradigm Titans, two rear JBLs and eventually a Paradigm CC330. That is a really good fit, although I would prefer some different rears, but I got these a long time ago without thinking about it too much. I actually made my own sub - a Dayton 12" with an Apex Senior sub amp - sounds really nice if I do say so myself!

I will say that the 2105 has more than enough features and should not become obsolete for many years, at least for how we use it. The remote sucks ass, but most OEM remotes do. For your budget, I'd go with the Denon.

Unless you are a true enthusiast, then don't sweat the little details. Just my take - I'd not recommend something I did not like myself.

And for your cables, I'd recommend www.cablewholesale.com I learned of them from an A/V website and took a shot...glad I did too. All their cables were less expensive than Parts Express and the quality was on par with Monster Cable (which is way overpriced anyway).
