My 1st Home

On Friday, October 2nd, 2015, my wife and I bought our first home. If our wedding barely 2 months ago wasn't enough to tie us together, now we have a house together

The process from start to finish took just a month from the day we first saw the place and the closing itself took less than an hr. According to our friends and family who have been through this process before, this was very fast so I guess that's a good thing.

The house is a fixer upper as I wanted something I can put some work into not something already remodeled. My dad works in construction so I just need to put the funds together to get things done with time. It will be hard to buy car parts now when I gotta buy toilets and faucets and wife wants a new kitchen already

Without further delay, here it is:

Congrats! Looking forward to the progress (it sounds like the kitchen is near the top of the list LOL).

Beautiful house

I miss the NE house where the garage door aren't the center piece, like our houses here in California

Really? I find most garage doors in CA to be nonexistent because most houses are so old, the garages are detached and in the back.

and be careful with your first house... it's very easy to overspend on 'upgrades'... i made that mistake on my first house, but it was a heck of a learning experience...

I agree. Def didnt want the garage to be front center. Also wanted a detached just for noise purposes

You wanted a detached garage? I had one on my first house by default (old neighborhood without garages and a previous owner added it). I hated it. I would never have one again, unless it was in addition to an attached garage. Basically use it for extra vehicles that aren't driven often.

Yes im an autotech so i will be doing work out of the garage on my off days. A detached garage would benefit so i wouldnt have customers "in my house" especially with the noise level of the work

backstory. I enjoy DIY. and my dad is a contractor. so when shopping for a home I did not want something already done. wanted a fixer up so I could pick the finishes and all with my wife and make it our own. so that's why we went with this home.

here is where we are so far. we closed on oct 2nd. went on our honeymoon oct 6th. went straight to work once we got back on oct 13th. put in 4 long days with my father in law. decided to gut back to studs because the walls were ugly and wavy with many holes, and it had popcorn ceiling. at this time we found out there was no insulation in the walls. so that's getting added.

while we were at it, we decided it was time to open er up.

once this is completed and we have walls again we will be moving in. only the essentials will be in the living space as we want to get the floors either refinished or replaced before we settle in.

lol. new Kohler elongated toilets were purchased in one of the many home depot runs. so comfy!

i haven't mentioned this before, but the house is from 1930s era thus why the more reason to update a bit. here is an updated picture of how it looked last night. many sleepless nights have come and gone and still many more to go
