My toilet runs. Almost all the time.

The insides look like:



The rubber hose from the left side to the right side is what is almost always piping water down the tube, and thus into the bowl.

These new-fangled toilet guts have me confused. What do I do?

 

Need more info.

If the hose is running then the tank should also be trying to fill with water. Is the water in the tank spilling into the same hole that the hose pumps into? If so then you just need to adjust the shutoff level of the fill valve.

These things usually boil down to adjusting something or replacing the fill valve and/or flapper.

I've done this stuff successfully and my plumbing skills are low.

 

i just bought a new toilet and that solved my problems.

 

The water level is at the very top of the flush valve tube, but not spilling over. I guess I just don't have any idea how to adjust these new systems...

All the repair stuff I see online is for the old ball float style toilets...

 

The problem is most likely the flapper valve. Replace it and see if it still runs constantly.

 

If the flapper is seated correctly then you need to adjust the fill valve. There should be a screw that allows you to adjust it up/down. In this case you need to adjust it down until the water stops. It should only take 1-2 turns.

Flapper is OK, the water leaking into the bowl is from the small tube that points into the top center of the ?flush tube? in the middle. When I pinch it off, the flow into the bowl stops.

I will look for an adjustment screw when I get home. I am guessing that the water level in the tank should not be at the very top of this center tube?

 

Should be just below. Yours may not have a screw and could be like the one in the video I posted.

I found a video for the exact style I have. Looks like it;s the same procedure as you posted. 1/4 Turn counter clockwise to unlock and adjust height. I will give it a shot tonight.

check the flapper first... it should have some silicone on the bottom that seals any leaks into the bowl while it is closed... i suspect you have a leak there which is causing the fill valve to continue to run since the water level doesn't reach the top of where it is set to...

 

You need to change out the entire flush valve assembly. I had same problem while back, couldn't find leak nor would adjustment do it.



And if you're calling it a loo, more problems than just water.

 

Could be the flapper is fine and there's some foreign object keeping it from closing completely. Stick your hand down there and feel around.

Going to take your advice and replace the flapper and see if that solves it. If not, I will replace the fill valve too. If that still doesn't work, I may just shit in the yard from here on out.

9 times out of 10 a new flapper will fix your problem.

 

If you don't see water on the floor, the only other place it could be leaking from is the flapper.

Not sure if it was the toilet or the 1/2 reduction in lawn watering time, but I just got my water bill and it is OVER 50% less than the same month last year.

 

 

the chain that connects the flapper to the darn handle that flushes the toilet keeps coming off, how do i get it to stop falling off?
super glue?

 

Just bend the little metal hook on the chain so that it doesn't slip off.

If that doesn't work due to corrosion or a cracked rod, go to a hardware store or Home Depot and buy the toilet handle, rod and chain part-- it's only a few dollars, IIRC.

 

you could gettho rig it and just take one of those wire ties (like the small ones they put on loaves of bread and stuff) and twist one onto the handle and as well another onto the flapper. Quick, easy and cheap repair!

 

I may have to do that. The way the handle is designed the hook can't be clamped shut, it like just clips into the handle.

With enough wiggling I could come off again.

OK, new issue...

As mentioned above, I have the Korky style filler valve assembly (http://www.homedepot.com/p/t/2021838...2#.UUS3vxzvv2s).

When I flush the toilette, it flushes fine but then as it starts to refill, it starts and stops the process. It finishes, but in a stooping and starting fashion, such as "start", "stop", "start", "stop","start", "stop", etc. about three or four times until the tank is full. Then it STFU and sits there all style waiting for me to flush...

Any ideas why it would stop and start while refilling the tank?
