Question Experience with Lady Bugs?

Anyone have experience with Lady Bugs? The other day when it warmed up before we plummeted back into artic temperatures I noticed A LOT of lady bugs at my new house - in the basement, by the windows etc. Never had lady bugs at previous house, here they seem to be quite common - anyone have any experience with chemicals etc to battle them? I will attempt to seal better around the basement windows and where the house lumber meets the foundation, but is there any other useful things you used or did - sprays or anything? I read that they are harmless, but do cause a mess if you accidentaly step on one or squish it.

Thanks. I like nature, but just on the outside

What kind of lady bugs are these? Are they the garden variety red ones, or yellow/orange colored? If they stink when you kill them, odds are you have an asian beetle infestation.

At my home, I've had a problem with asian beetles for the last few years. It seems like they popped up out of nowhere in 2001 or 2002. An article that helped me is here:

The bottom line to getting rid of them is that you can't. You can cut down on the number of them by sealing windows and doors, vacuuming up the ones you can find, and possibly calling an exterminator. Apparently pesticides and bug bombs aren't very effective, but that didn't stop my neighbor from trying them. (They're still at both of our homes each spring/fall).

Good info. I will look at them closely and determine species. Sounds like everywhere I have read and your link - sealing is really the only defense I can do. I appreciate the useful link/info....caulk gun ready!!
Thanks

Do they look like this?

If so they are a good bug. I buy containers of them at the nursery to control aphids on roses. Was out hiking early one morning in the forest and came upon a 6' log that was covered with them 3" deep!

So not true... see the above post for an example...

Some bugs are natures best pesticides... I've got a couple of spiders in my cellar that take care of any bugs that might find their way down there
