Carpet...

Is it easy to take off the carpet and put it back? Do you need any special tools? I'm lookin to lift it up and run some speaker wire what would be the best way of doing it...never really messed with my carpet so im completely clueless

I've only done the edges and it was not that hard. I had to do the same thing (run speaker wires) in our last house... so I just picked up the edges, ran the wire, and put it back down. Didn't need anything special and you could never tell I moved anything.

If you're doing more then that... then I do not know...

That should be all you need is the knee/kick tool about $30 at Lowe's

Carpet is stretched when its put in. If you lift it up you'll need to get it re-stretched. If your carpet is older you may want to get it re-stretched anyways. They used a knee kicker to stretch the carpet before hooking it onto the tack strip.

Wow... seems like a lot of work. As mentioned, I had none of these problems. FWIW, the carpet was about 8 months old when I did this since the house was new. I didn't need any tools or anything... just pulled it up from under the molding, ran the wires, and put it back...

I may be completly wrong here, but I would think that if the carpet has been there for a while and was installed and streched properly the first time, then the carpet is now streched already. If you pull up part of it for only a few hours (at max) nothing is going to happen.

Tack strips are not flush to the wall. I had room to run 10 gage wires without taking carpet off the tack strips.

Nope, it was properly installed. Maybe they just cut the carpet larger and didn't stretch it as much as your installation was, thus making it easier for me to do what I needed to do without the hassle you're going through .
