Behr paint, good or does it suck?

So I'm about ready to get my house painted and have pretty much decided on the colors after buying a lot of samples of Behr paint.

From what I've heard in the past and from paint contractors (including the one that is going to paint my house); they all have said that Behr paint is among the best paint. The contractor that is going to paint my house is not biased because he is leaving it up to me to buy whatever brand paint I want, and he would just charge the labor; so I don't see why he would care what paint I would buy.

However after searching the internets I'm seeing a lot of people saying Behr actually sucks.

Anyone here had recent experience with Behr paint? I know its the most expensive, but if its worth it, then I don't mind spending the extra money.

Holds up pretty well on the wood trim on the South side of my house. All outdoor paint sucks since they took the lead out! I don't remember eating paint chips when I was a kid, does anyone else?

Ten years ago I'd have agreed that Behr sucks. But I used it to paint my garage about 5 years back, and it covered as well as any other similarly priced paint I've used recently (Valspar, Sherwin-Williams).

I use the Behr + primer stuff in my house and I'm happy with it.

Behr is plenty good. But if you have a professional paint shop around, I have found that Devoe brand paint is excellent and inexpensive. You can get a 5 gallon bucket for 80 dollars. pick a color from any brand swatch and they color match it and your good to go.

I painted one room with the most expensive ben moore paint and do agree that it sure does go on silky buttery smooth, but fuck its damn expensive. 5x more.

Used it 5 years ago and the coverage was terrible. It took 3 coats to every one of the Lowes paint we switched to.
I tried the interior paint again a month ago and had the same results. Went back to Lowes.

I like the paint. Haven't had it outside long enough to comment on its durability but I'm satisfied so far

I've had the front of my house painted twice in 14 years when trim work was done, they used Sherman Williams, I'm not pleased with it's performance. I used Behr inside 10 years ago, and the walls look great and still clean well.

Did the inside of my house a little over a year ago with Behr. All walls were plain white matte finish when I bought it. Even light colors took 2 full coats with about 75% of them requiring a third coat and touch up. Darker colors took 3 full coats plus touch up. My office is a rust orange color, took 5 coats.

My old roommate bought a house 9 doors down from mine so I helped him paint. He got the Benjamin Moore paint. Almost everything covered in 1 coat, but there was a lot of touch up. He did pay almost 3 times what I did in total cost though.

It's pretty simple. Go to Home Depot and a true paint store on a Monday morning and see how many professional painters are at each location.

I only use Benjamin Moore, Finneran and Haley, or Sherwin Williams.

13 years ago the first house I bought had Behr paint. I tried painting over it with another brand and the paint had streak marks. Second coat no better. I had to prime it and then paint over it.

The current house I'm in has Behr paint that was applied maybe 10 years ago. There are spots where chips of paint are coming off the wall. This is how I have gotten in the habit of priming every time I paint.

Maybe the new Behr paint is better than the old but I won't touch it.

I've use Behr when I moved in (9 years ago) and just recently (2 months ago); very pleased. My dad just used some Valspar on a project, and it was worthless; damn near ruined the project.

What I noticed regarding coats...as long as you have good paint, it's the brushes. I used some of the cheap rollers, and it took a couple of coats. When I used the good rollers, it only took one.

ben moore and sherwin williams are good stuff, but I just recently used the behr paint and primer in one in my whole house and it came out excellent.

The wall paint is great, the garage floor epoxy, not so much.

Used a 5 gallon bucket of Behr in our house and our painter said he had no problems with it. He typically only uses Benjamin Moore paints and someone had Home Depot mix this 5 gallon bucket but they rejected it so we got a 5 gallon bucket for 20 bucks! That was about 2.5 years ago and it still looks just as good, no issues.

However, we had no kids and kids rarely come to our house so I can't speak about its durable in that regard.

This stuff is awesome. We painted a lighter taupe color over a dark red in our kitchen, it covered in one coat. I have always been a fan of Benjamin Moore or Pratt and Lambert exterior paints. I think any paint that you pay $35++ per gallon for is gonna be pretty good.

Im using Behr Paint and primer ($33) and i like it alot. I have 2 other cans of Behr regular paint ($20ish) and i feel they are crap. Definately differernt from the paint&primer.
I was planning on going with Ben Moore but i priced 1 can at $45 so stuck with the Behr.

In anyone's experience does the Behr w/Primer clean up well? I'm going to be painting my upstairs soon and have two small kids who like to place their dirty hands everywhere on the walls.

Though i painted my house recently with Behr paint and Primer (sprayed it) and it came out great. (Sherwin store was closed the sunday i was doing it and wanted it done before the wife came home) That said the standard Behr i have not had any good luck with.

I've never had a problem with Behr. We even used to use Behr stain on our deck and it seemed to hold up the best. I've never used Behr paint outdoors though.. so not sure how their exterior stuff holds up.

All contractors get the paint at cost from SW, which could be a reason they are there. However, I do agree that SW is excellent paint.

A good buddy of mine who is also a professional painter said Behr is OK, not bad, but not great either. He swears by Benjamin Moore.

true they get a nice discount BUT no painter worth his salt would put up with crappy paint like Behr. Most of their business is based on referrals and one bad paint job can be disastrous.

The painter we use for big jobs (we buy the paint for him) always recommends we get Benjamin Moore for walls. He's a bit less picky on things like ceiling white.
