the beginnings of my bunker
this is the beginning of my living room bunker. tomorrow the trim will be painted sand color. i'm getting two 8 foot bamboo trees to go on either end of this window, and my 60 gallon lizard tank will be directly under it. I'm hanging camo netting on the doors and replacing the ceiling fan with a military surplus fan if I can find one. the tv will be on a military surplus table built into a wall of sandbags. i'm going to have 3 rifles on the walls, a crossbow, and a grenade belt.
if you get the theme... anything I'm missing? any suggestions?

wow,
you need a home makeover and quick...
kind of a cool idea... but your friends will shyt when they see that you have turned your livingroom into a vietnamese torture camp...
if i was you i would just go buy a 40 inch plasma and get ready for the NFL season... its more fun that all that war stuff...
but if want a few suggestions, i would try to find some of the old signs that were used in the camps (korean war style) watch a few episodes of MASH, they had tons of signs... very cool)
it does look cool i have to admit... but i a a modern guy... black leather and all that shyt so i cant say i love the look...
but keep the pics coming... differernt strokes for uh.... "different" folks..

Rootbeer, you need to just walk around the Army/Navy surplus store and pick out some things as you see 'em... I'm sure you bump into things in your normal travels that you can add as you go along...
My step dad has an "African Safari" theme in his "bonus room".

I thought his girlfriend was over seas studying or something, but either way, that doesn't matter.
Looks like it is something you will enjoy, and if you ever get a flood you'll be able to throw the sandbags outside to prevent the water from coming in.

"The Hole" is so cool. I want to go dig one in my backyard now.
Beetroot - you'll need a flag of some kind on the wall too. Go to a surplus store and just check the whole place out. Might also be worhtwhile to talk to the guy working there to see if he'll let you go check out his secret stash in the back a la Falling Down.

I've had that stuff for the last few years. I just got tired of it. I sold my couches (2 black leather) and all my furniture a couple months ago. My bedroom and the rest of the house will still look somewhat normal though.
Thanks for the advice everyone... let me know if anything specific comes to mind that I should add. I am going to rent some war movies and shit, and wander around in the army/navy surplus stores this week.
Because I know you are all sitting on the edges of your seats anxiously awaiting updates, I will make sure to keep this post updated for your enjoyment.

It's an instruction manual for the M72 anti-tank missle launcher. Every bunker should have one.

well I am putting in a dog door made out of camoflauge fabric... so if anyone busts in my mutt can rip them to shreds... does that count?
that instruction manual is great... I will leave that out on the coffee table for light reading...

The "coffee table" should be this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW
THAT'S KILLER
Actually, you should try to contact this seller, and see what other inventory they have. It looks like he may have all kinds of cool stuff to offer!

I need to find this stuff locally though, I don't want to pay $80 to have a $15 desk shipped. There are a TON of army surplus stores out here with that kind of stuff. I'm going to check some out today.

See if you can dig up a copy of:
US Army FM 5-15 Field Fortifications
Here's a tip - get yourself some sandbags, only fill them with packing foam peanuts. They still look the part, but only weigh 1/100the the amount of real sand!
And no self respecting bunker shut-in can be without his own personal air raid siren, right?
