Anyone ever negotiate at Home Depot?

How hard is it to get them to knock 10% off of a lawn mower? I already have their credit card so I can't sign up for another one.

I want a fancy Honda one like Scrib has.

What's the worst that happens, they say no. Ask for the manager and see if they will use their discretionary powers to give you a discount for a "scratch" or some other made up reason.

IF they wont give you 10% get a friend to buy it at full price, and return it for refund a day later for any reason. Go and buy it from returns as a restock at a discount.

It works with building materials.

just try to get a competitors coupon, either lowes or harbor freight will work. they should honor them if you ask.

It's pretty easy to negotiate with these guys. No different than going into BestBuy and knocking $$$ off A/V crap.

Fatwallet probably has a link to a coupon...

You can get 10% from filling out a "moving" form on homedepot.com but it takes 4-6 weeks to come in...

Just tell 'em you want the 10% and if they don't you'll come back with a coupon...

I got lucky tonite at the Depot, I was looking at the Honda HRR1625DA mower which is on clearance for $299 and also one of their Vermont Casting grills, asked him if they could do any better on the price of the lawn mower, they said if they take 10% off both will that work.

Needless to say I bought both. I guess he was an assitant manager and had the authority to do it. Just ask, you have nothing to lose.

If you do that make sure it is an original, they will not take copies.

How was the condition of the mower? All of the clearance ones at my local HD looked like they sat outside all winter. Hell they even had one of the $700 Hondas in the "new" area that looked like it was outside all winter. The muffler was rusted and the tires were really dirty.

They had some grills outside on clearance but I didn't get a good look at them. I wouldn't say they were much cheaper than the new ones and some were missing parts.

If I buy the mower at this HD I definitely want one in the box. I'll have to stop at another HD to see if the clearance stuff is in better shape.

On the other hand I looked at a Vermont Casting grill for the first time. They seem to have really good construction compared to the other similar stuff, and the prices are the same. I like the one with the blue lid. I think it was $350-$400.

The lawn mower was new in the box(had one more in box plus the display), the grill wasn't on clearance, it is the the one with the blue lid. Tried it out today and no complaints.

Good luck on your hunt. I found that each Home Depot usually has different stuff on clearance and for different prices.
