Advice for a house warming gift

I just met this a girl who seems great, really down to earth, great head on her shoulders, cute - well she is closing on her first house tomorrow. We've only known each other for 2 weeks, we've only spoke a few times but things seem like they have potential, I'd like to get her something as a house warming gift, nothing huge just some $20+/- gift to show I care and realize how big this is for her. Any suggestions?

If you give a bottle of good wine maybe she will invite you over to share it.

Like TXXX said, a Vase, or a Picture Frame... or something of the sort. Something everyone needs/likes/uses that isn't excessive but is relatively thoughtful.

Speaking of which, I was at Pottery Barn in Crossgates this past weekend and they have all sorts of nice frames on sale for $15-30.

If she is the nurturing type, buy her a potted plant in a decent pot. The vase for flowers is a decent stunt, as it allows you to fill it later down the road.....

I'll tell you.. the best gifts we ever received were Home Depot or Lowe's gift cards. The first thought is that gift cards are too generic and no thought goes into them.

Let me tell you... i've received plants, clocks, vases, picture frames, and so on... and the best gifts were those gift cards b/c since day 1 we've been doing nothing but improving and doing stuff to the house, so they ALWAYS come in handy....

I agree. I've received stuff, like clocks, that went straight to the attic.

I like the plant idea. Unless you know her taste, getting her a vase, frame, clock.... might not be the best idea.

Find her something unusual and something that is easy to care for. Maybe something with colorful flowers or smells good.

Nothing personal, but getting a gift card/gift certificate for someone you're looking to is not a good idea.

We regifted some stuff as well. The gift card is perfect... and if you're afraid it's not going to look like a personal gift... get a Hallmark card and write something nice to her as well. Don't just give the gift card...put it in a greeting card and put some thought into what you say in there....

Just show up with a bottle of MD 20/20 wearing nothing but "elephant" underwear.

No specific ideas, but doing something different, unique, original, creative, or maybe even something funny is always better than something 'typical' in my books.

I am leaning towards that as well, one of my good friends is big in the flower biz and could make a suggestion based on what I am looking for.

Go to the SPCA and get her the mangiest looking cat you can find. If she can nurse it back to health and doesn't kill you, pursue a relationship.

Serious ideas - potted plant (ficus is a nice small tree), bottle of decent wine (with dinner at her new place of course), picture frame, radio alarm clock (not romantic, but she'll remeber you every morning), scented candles are nice especially if the place smells like the former tenants.

Just think of stuff she might actually use - the more useful the better IMO. Update by you required - I wanna know how this works out.
