Be careful with cereal. The nutritional content can vary widely between different brands. I love a lot of brands/types of cereal, but i gave them all up except plain Cheerios - everything else is just too calorie dense. Two cu p sof cheerios w/ skim milk and a protein shake is VERY filling to me.
You know what's even better than cereal? Plain oatmeal. And not that instant crap, just the plain box (tube?) Quaker oatmeal. Bonus points if it's real steel cut oats. Put on some cinnamon and you have a pretty tasty, very healthy way to get your carbs.
However i only eat those if i'm feeling lazy. The ultimate breakfast food item, IMO, is eggs.

and yes much better

Okay I'm going to the store tonight. Gonna pick up lots of veggies, some good cereal, skim milk, oatmeal, etc. Any suggestions on a relatively easy to prepare lunch that I can take with me to work? Are bananas okay?
Dinner's going to be the biggest problem, cuz my parents love fast food and they refuse to change their ways.

Healthy(er) fast food == subway. Check out their site for the nutrition facts. Just stay away from extra cheese and dressing/mayo (mustard is ok).

I would recommend eating a larger breakfast, medium sized lunch and a small dinner. That way you spend more of your waking hours able to metabolize your food.

It's also about not-so-good for your dinners. Sometimes my wife craves Five Guys Burgers & Fries. I tell her we can go, but I 'm not going to eat anything (they have NOTHING healthy on the menu). She says forget it, if she has to eat alone it will suck all the fun out of it.

^^ can't really blame her for that one tho dude.
you're not going to get fat by enjoying a junk meal with her every once in a while. IMO, you should do what you can to keep from alienating your wife for enjoying the things/foods which she enjoys from time to time.

Really, who the hell wants to eat alone.
Better be careful or wifey will be going to get 5 guys but without the Burgers and Fries.

You guys are right. I realize I'm going overboard. I have an obsessive personality trait that shows up with certain things.

If you want to have one cheat meal with your wife, go for it. Let's say you end up taking in an extra 1000 calories because she cooked an awesome Italian meal. No big deal. This will not hurt you much. If you're really paranoid about it, for the next 4-5 days eat 200-250 calories less than you normally have.
