#4 is done. I was really good until mile 21 and then my legs got fried.I still ran a 3:19, it's another pr, but not by much.
Doing a marathon three weeks apart wasn't bad but i guess it takes me a bit longer to recover.

Nice job! 3:19 is really good! I know I will never get to that time lol. Good race weather at least?

That's nuts. I would be ecstatic to run ~7.5 min miles in a 10k, but in a marathon? Damn dude.

The weather was perfect. It was dry, 45-50 degrees and it started at 6am. The wind did start picking up around 8:30-9am so it didn't affect most of the race. It was on a rail trail so it was completely level.

i was running 7-7:19 miles up until mile 20-21. I think my legs were pretty well toasted from the short rest a few weeks ago. I was on pace for 3:08-09 and i ended up walking/running the last 5 miles.

I think if i only do one spring marathon and want to qualify, i'll do this one next spring and try for a 3:05-07.

I was hating life the last few miles but knew i would finish.

My goal is to still run the full thing without walking.

That's what the mrs. says.
She said i am running 26 at her sprinting pace. Our coach runs a 2:25 marathon and i guess that's around a 5:30 pace which is sprinting to me.

Now i get to concentrate on a nice short race, the half marathons.

Your coach is more nuts than Dan. I've done a 5:05 mile once. One mile. I was young, in great shape, and dead at the end of it. Fuck the 25 other miles I skipped.

Good Lord.

I've only broken the 6 minute barrier for 1 mile once since turning 30 six years ago, but I've only ever tried once.

Thank you.

I've long considered starting a "Feats of Athleticism" thread here but never followed through. Given that I just gave away half of my accomplishments, the future of my thought isn't looking very bright.

Damn that's fast. My fastest was a couple years ago at 5:30. Age is catching up.

That actually makes me feel really good. I learned doing the 10k that I am definitely a middle distance racer. The race in high school I had the best chance at scoring points for my team was actually the half mile, but I'll save that time for the new thread.

I think today, i could get my best races out of a mile, two-mile, or 5K.

It's funny what you learn later in life. I am sure you aren't far off from where you used to be. A lot of runners aren't as fast as they were in school, but still pretty close.

Minus my knees, sometimes I'm faster (on a treadmill) than I used to be in high school.

I dunno. I can't remember a track meet where I ran a mile in over 6 min, and the thought of that now makes my chest hurt.

Then again, I never run on a track anymore either, and a road just doesn't give the same result.

You were a fast dude. Impressive.

There is something about looking at how fast you're going and your pace, etc. I can always run faster on a treadmill than I can outside.

While I don't consider myself slow, I've also never won an official race. I placed second with that 5:05 mile, and that was at a 2A meet (school hosting it had probably 50 people per class). I placed third with my fastest half mile, but in the same distance at one district meet, I lost by over 200M.

I ran a long half about a month ago and ran a 1:35. I swear the course was longer than when i ran it 3 years ago. There was an unfamiliar loop that had a huge ass hill that we had to climb up. I don't remember that one.

Next week i am planning to run a one mile race in Harrisburg and then a 45k on Saturday. The 45k is three loops beginning at 7am. It's all trail but that shouldn't be an issue. i ran 19 trail miles this past Saturday to get ready for it. I am sure it'll be hot or humid as hell, but i seem to be prepared.

Damn son! Nice job!

Sometime within the next three months I'm going to try for less than a 6 minute mile. My weakest link seems to be my legs and knees.

Five days ago I did HIIT and I ran at speed step 10 (6 minute mile) for the fast parts and speed step 6 (10 minutes a mile) on the slow parts. My goal within the next month is to hit 6 minutes a mile for a half mile.

It's certainly tougher to run now that we are at the 100 degree mark. Can't go as far and get tired much quicker. Plus last night I went for a run and it must be gnat mating time because I was plastered in gnats all over my body when I got home.

It has been an eventful week for me. I ran a one mile race on Wed. and ran a 5:46. It was slower than last year, but i still placed 2nd in my age group. Today........ i ran a 45k or 27-28 miles. I ran a 5:04 in this f-in heat. There were three 9 mile loops. They were hilly and rocky. The first loop was about 90 minutes, the 2nd was about 1:40 and the last was the rest. The last one kicked my ass. I drank over a gallon of fluid during the race along with chips, fig newtons, cookies, etc.

I hiked up the hills and ran the flat and downhill parts. It was seriously hard. It was so hard to get my shoes and socks off afterwards. I finished 8th overall and 3rd in my age group. I would have done much better if i hadn't walked so much. This was one of the hardest races i have ever run.

I want to run again, but the heat is just too much. The only reason it's been remotely cool is because it's been raining for a fawking week. Humidity makes the 85 feel just as hot.

Yea today the humidity is killer, as was most last week. But yesterday was that one day break of clear skies and low humidity. Gotta take advantage of it.

It's rained everyday for the past 8 days here. Today is the first break and we'll be back to a 100+ heat index. Fall will be here soon enough. I run at night anyway.

You guys are much hotter than us, but this heat can be over now. I think the 45k in 95 degree heat killed me and running in the heat. I ran a 7k last week and suffered like hell.

No doubt it killed you. I see people running for exercise in the afternoons around here, and I always question their decision. It can be dangerous in direct sunlight.

Your 5:46 mile is a great time though. I wonder if I can get back under 6 min.

I did it! I ran the monster mash marathon in Dover DE this past weekend. I ran strong the entire time and at no time felt like i needed to walk. It was windy as hell and it rained at certain points of the race. I finished in 3:10:38 and 10th overall out of 255. Not superfast by any means, but i finally put together a run that qualified for Boston. I needed a 3:15 or 3:12:30 by this past years' standards and i got it.

This was my third marathon this year. I have run a 45k and 3-4 half marathons, and a 10 miler this year, so i'm on a roll. I have one more marathon in three weeks that i'm planning on running. For those who run Boston, i'll see you in 2018.

The other one will probably be Harrisburg. My achilles is still aching some and i'm watching the weather, so we'll see.

It's funny, i ran a 5k the other day and there were only 100 runners and i won with my time of 19:40. Normally that would be top 10, but no one else showed up. It's a small victory, but i'll take it.

Sorry to hear about the achilles, that's awesome that you won with a 19:40. That's still faster than my PR, but next year I'm dropping the marathon and focusing on speed throughout the 5k, 10k, and half. Philly will be marathon #5 (#3 of this year) for me and I need a break from the full.

Good luck in Philly, i hope the weather is good for you. I thought i was nuts with running so much, but you are just as bad. I was thinking the same thing for next year. The full really takes a good amount of time and energy to do.

How was philly?

This year was successful for me. I have run 3 marathons, one 45k, one 10 miler and a handful of shorter races. I am closing in on 1700 miles for the year, but i think i might fall short. My goal was 1600. I qualified for Boston and ran a pr for the marathon 3:10 and 1:07 for the 10 miler. The 45 was the hardest thing i did this year. It was 90-95 for most of the race and it really kicked the crap out of my body. I didn't like the heat too much after that and my body didn't react well to it afterwards. I was always looking for a/c.

I don't know what i am planning for 2017. I don't need to do as many marathons since i have qualified and they take a good amount of time to do. But, i may convince my wife to run the wineglass half marathon on October. I am guestimating a 1:45-50 finish for her if she runs it.
