dallison-my friend that put together that honor run last month running the triple marathon along with many others ....he's now taking it to a whole other level:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...mbing-victims/

http://www.standunitedrununited.org/

http://www.nbcwashington.com/news/lo...209134401.html

If ANYONE happens to live in the areas along their route, join them, donate or share in support. They won't be hard to miss. They'll be fully escorted in each state by state and local PD, and they will be carrying the American flag on their shoulders all the way to Boston (they will finish running along the Boston marathon route on Saturday). This is going to be EPIC. They left this morning from the 9/11 memorial at the Pentagon at 6am. They'll be visiting 10 states along the way (passing through Philly, NYC, Baltimore and into Boston).

Wow, he's a freakin animal. I'll have to check if his route brings him into my area.

bah, i see they look to be going the delaware way and will probably miss central pa, but you never know.
That is an awesome thing that he's doing.

his FB posts are great! they are heading into Baltimore right now. my friend has completed marathon #1 and his first pitstop was going to wendy's ...he has an amazing post of his experience through the first 26 miles. it almost brings tears to your eyes. they'll be in philly on thursday according to their schedule. they've gotten media coverage from 3 of the 4 major new stations in our area. i'm sure they'll continue to get it as they pass through the other major markets heading into Boston.

the police escorts they've been getting...nothing but total respect for these guys and what they are doing. my friend posted on his FB feed that the baltimore motorcycle cops escorting them basically had parked in formation ahead of him and as he passed saluted him as he shuffled by on his way out of their jurisdiction. he was just floored. the state troopers even ran with him for a few in full dress (the WJLA coverage showed the troopers running with them). i'd like to have a full police escort when i'm out riding!

they are closing in on the DE border.

My friend and his crew have made it to the Boston Marathon course and en route to the finish!!!! He and his friend wil have completed EIGHT marathons EACH since tuesday morning when they left the Pentagon 9/11 memorial. Their ETA is a 12p finish down Boylston to Copley Square. They hurt, sleep deprived and have endured so much in the last 5 days...many highs and many lows...but I'm sure this last marathon will be the sweetest of them all no matter how bad they hurt (and trust me they've been hurting BAD since about wednesday after marathon 3). My friend has amassed a huge following on FB reading his posts of their journey. They had police escorts through most of the route except PA (really?? ) and they nearly got run over a few times while in PA.

This makes anything that I do or any of us do...pale in comparison. Then again, my friend is a bit crazy with a massive heart and a stubborn streak...he's a damn machine along with some of his ultra friends. if you guys want to see more about it...google 450 mile run dc to boston. i'm sure local boston news will feature them today when they arrive at the finish. thanks for reading!

What an animal. I didn't even post something about a pr last week b/c it felt like a drop in the bucket compared to what they accomplished. It's amazing what they accomplished.

it just makes you think a little more just when you think you're hurting...and to think what these guys went through...you tell yourself to STFU and keep going. They finished at 1pm on satuday to people lining the boylston st to the marathon finish. jeff bauman's GF ran 19 miles with them to the finish. She gave my friend her Boston marathon finisher's medal (she didn't get to finish the day of, but everyone still received a medal) with a nice message written on the back. He was in shock. they made most of the boston news stations on saturday. it was crazy when they finished.

what they have done brings so much meaning in so many ways. i'm proud to call him my friend. he's a beast along with all of his buddies that were crewing and running with them.

Oh my. Yesterday it was sunny and hit 99 degrees. I still went for a run after work even though I knew I would have a slower pace and drink more water. I still haven't felt that exhausted and during a run in a long time, I wanted to quit after a mile and half lol. The heat was horrible! But I will have to get used to it

Some of the more senior members of our running group have a 10 minute rule. Go out 10 minutes and you're still not feeling it, turn around.

As tltrigirl said, keep doing it and you'll become acclimated to it. And please make sure to rehydrate. You will lose a rediculous amount of weight on a summertime run.

tltrigirl, how is your friend doing after his journey?

he's actually doing well. he took a number of days off, but just HAD to run 4 miles on national running day. he's been playing at the beach a bit and SUP (stand up paddle). he'll be leaving for cali soon for the western states 100 at the end of the month.

they ended up raising over $81k by the end of their run and got up to $83k since then.

he's still blown away by what they did. him and the rest of his FB followers. he's the only person i know that can FB and run at the same time. lol. i think about his journey to boston during my runs when the going starts to get tough. i tell myself, "they ran to boston for crying out loud in the heat, certainly you can keep pushing a little bit more for this measly little run you're on now...keep pushing!!!!"

as far as hot weather running...you need to run for about an 60 min a day (or do some sort of vigorous activity) for a couple of weeks to fully acclimate (there are actual physiological adjustments your body makes so you can tolerate the heat).

I have been slowly lowering my half times. Yesterday i ran a hilly one and knocked 1:09 off of last years' time. I looked at my notes from last year and i didn't have anything left at the end. this year i finished stronger and felt real good.

I still don't run fast uphill and get passed, but not as much. It could be b/c of the consistant longer miles.

My knee is doing well and the other conditioning has helped. The next half i'll probably do is in September and i hope to do better on that since it's a flat course.

My only full will probably come in november. I will do the best to stay injury free and run the entire thing competitively. I should be able to finish under 3:20. When i turn 40 in two years, i should be able to lower my time below 3:15 at the current qualifying standards to run boston.

Looks like I've gotten used to the heat.. been running in upper 90s several times now with no problem. And I'm starting to go shirtless because #1 I am a badass and #2 it gets annoying and pointless wearing a heavy, drenched top. Plus the wind on the body is cooling.

Why is it that when I need to fart when I run it is ALWAYS when I'm passing someone and they DON'T have headphones. I don't want to act like a douchebag and fart in their face so I hold it in and the next time I need to let some gas out again it is right as I am about to pass someone .. and cramps suck. However, if I see the person has headphones in, I just let it rip

^^do it all the time at races...don't care either. i'll belch while i'm at it too.

do you where dry fit type running tops?

cramps are probably from dehydration kicking in. do you run with fluids?

I do wear dry fit type shirts and tanks but they still get soaked; it is impossible for them not to when it is so hot outside especially if there is little or no wind.

Yea, I run with my water bottle and a couple gels. I rarely actually get cramps, I guess the gases just build up once I start running for a while

Mrs. Dallison and i ran a one mile race last week. I can tell you that i don't remember how to run a fast one mile race since most of my mileage is slow and i don't do speed workouts. I ran a 5:31 in 94 degree heat. My 1/4 was 1:10, the 1/2 mile was 2:26 and the rest was slower. Those times may have been quicker since i saw the clock and didn't run past it yet.

Now i know that i need to do some hill sprints for next year to get better.

lol, as a runner sometimes you are disappointed with times, but i have to realize that when i was in HS, i never ran a mile faster than 5:20 at a track event. so 11 more seconds isn't too bad.

It does give me a benchmark to shoot for and beat like i normally try to do. I do most events twice , once to see what i can do and twice to beat the original time since i already have some experience with it.

I need to continue training for a half in Sept and the full in Nov.

I have retired my first 500 mile pair of shoes with the one mile race on Wednesday. My wife is coming up on her one year runniversary and she is doing great. Last month she ran a couple 10 milers with me. She said the only reason she'll run a half is to get one of those "13. freakin 1" t-shirts.

I'm proud of her and she's an awesome running partner. btw she ran a 7:17 mile too. not speedy but just right where i thought she might be. Some of those women are freakin fast. A couple beat me in the last 100 yards, i'm tired from the trails this morning and i'm rambling.

dallison-that's great! to be only 11 seconds off from your HS time...it's the aerobic training you've done that allows you to keep that speed (marathon training).

it's all perspective. i won't be as fast in the water as i was in HS, but then again i dont' train the way i used to back in the day. i'm only about 5 seconds off my sprint times in the water for freestyle.

HA! some days I feel SO much older. cranked out about 15 hrs of training over the last 3 days (sat/sun/today), sat and sun were in the heat. oy. tomorrow's workout will be much more civil.

i'm in the heart of my high volume training (think 20-24 hrs/wk of training). and to think my nutty endurance running friend is doing a quintuple iron distance tri in october. no, not a typo. quint- as in 5. 12 mile swim, 560 mi bike, and 131 mi run. uh huh....WTF?!

he's on a completely different level of nuts. he hates swimming and he hates cycling, but is willing to pedal a bike for an ungodly amount of time and barely be able to get off the thing. he did a triple iron tri 2 yrs ago. he was on the bike for 24 hours (336 mi).

the mind numbing thing about the "race"....it's the same freaking 5 mile loop for the ENTIRE bike and the same 2 mile loop for the ENTIRE run. there are about a dozen people anticipated to do it (from the US and europe). the euro guys are machines.

the only thing limiting you....is the thing between your ears! you're still young, possibilities are endless. it starts with a few miles. then a 10K...then a 1/2 marathon...then a full marathon. i have another friend that is doing this. he'll be running his first marathon this fall after running a couple of 1/2's earlier this yr. it's mostly me and my other half's fault...he reads my race reports from my tri's. he gets inspired and wants to test himself.

having goals...and building off them. do them for you from inspired efforts of others. just be vigilant in your personal safety (this year has been a doozy for these types of things).
